What is...Your Parents Favorite Movie

Sort of an odd question. But I was laying on the couch watching TV and my mom was in the other room doing much the same and she squeeled with delight. "What's up, mom?" I asked, and she informed me that her all-time favorite movie was coming up next on AMC. I asked her what it was and she said "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner."

It had never occured to me before what my mother's favorite movie might be. I don't know why it had never occured to me, as much a part of my life as movies are. I also tend to think that a person's favorite movies say a lot about them. And I'm loathe to admit this, but I've never seen Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, so I decided that I'd check it out.

Anyway, saw the movie, great film. If you've seen it you know how good it is, if you haven't you should. But it left me thinking a lot about my mom, as a person, not as a mother, and for some reason, I was proud.

It may also be important to note that Spencer Tracey and Katherine Hepburn in that movie are almost perfect working templates for my mother's parents.

But I don't know. I wasn't even watching it with her, but I thought not only did the movie say a lot about a lot of things, but it also said a lot about my mom, and while she wasn't even the room or even watching the movie, it was, in a weird way, a connecting experience with her.

I am wondering what my father's movie might be, and while I haven't talked to him in ages, I'm tempted to drop him a line just to ask him. My best guess is that it is probably Field of Dreams, which is sort of sickly ironic.

So I was curious what your parents favorite movies are, and if you have any thoughts on the matter.

My mom would most likely say "Mrs. Doubtfire" and my dad would probably tell me he likes a lot of old war and western flicks but no favorite.

both highly enjoy Casablanca. they are rather fickle about their likes, though.

Probably more of a mini-series than a movie, but my mother has always loved "The Thorn Birds."

Never seen it myself, so I can't really comment on whether or not it is any good, but knowing my mom's shitty taste in flicks, it probably sucks ass.
