*IMPORTANT* RE: Profiles, everyones imput is needed!

As most of you know, the profiles and the forum use two seperate login/passwords. This is because when i originally started writing the scripts i did not plan on having a forum, the site was originally founded for the profiles only. This method is sloppy, inefficient and a pain in the ass for visitors and i want to change it.

Basically, what i want to do is convert the profiles to use the same member list as the forum. This would mean that you would have one login and password for the whole site, and would also allow for more interactivity between the forum scripts and the profile scripts. Also the alpha-numeric only restriction on profile names would be removed.

The downside to this is all the profile data most likely would be lost. The profiles and the forum store data in such drastically different ways that it would take more time than its worth to synchronize the memberlists and passwords.

Basically, what i'm trying to say is, is there any objections to wiping out the profiles and requiring you to re-enter all your info?

imput = a condensed form of the words "important" and "input".. thus proving that our input is infact important..

okay, now that THAT'S out of the way.. I'd prefer it, shit, how long does it take to re-do a profile? 5 minutes? I say go for it..

I like changing mine anyway; I wouldn't mind at all.

Put up a note on the main page alerting people in advance so they can save anything they they for some reason might want. And post the day before the switch in here.(I know I don't need to tell you that, oh awesome one.)

I say go and wipe the fuckers out. I put in a profile when this first started. or a little while after anyways, and then when i came back to the fold and started posting again i got all confused when i had to register for the forum.

just seems like it would be easier if it was all the same account. but doesn't really bother me too much seeing how i use pretty much the same username and password for everything. so if you have hacked my account you can get into any of my things. ANYTHING. you can take over my identity. all i ask is that you leave me Amerikan_Science and my keys.

And yeah, tell me about it. Web site design and management is a serious pain in the ass. But just think how good this'll look on your resume.

Dingle, if you're looking for something to do, you could upgrade the profile search to search by fields or selected fields. And if you're looking for a *lot* to do, you could have the results save in table format, linked to actual profiles. For example, to make it easier to solve the "average age" question. Or get a table of user name and location. Or, woo hoo, get a table of everybody and all fields. In other words, to enable the stalkers out there.

Also, fyi, if you search by * or ? or \ (or other special characters I assume) you get an internal server error.
