college is for chumps.

I work construction during the day, and jockey popcorn at the drive-in at night.

During my lunch hour I cruise Wal-Mart and try to pick up 17-22 year old chicks in my Chevy Cavalier

Errr so far the only grade that's been posted on my school's site is my World War 2 history one: B-
I could have gotten at least a B+ if i had went to more than 7 lectures.

You guys do some of the most bizarre courses? And the mixtures are even wierder?

Rosh? Loads of biochemistry and then 'courtship and marriage'??? WTF? I thought you were doing Graphic Design/CAD and stuff??

Paint? WTF is 'Adulthood and Aging'??? You need to learn about that? Surely living is the best lesson no? Are you seriously telling me you went ot lectures in which adults were told about what adulthood is and what aging means? or am I just being a cynic?

/me is confused

you know, I can't think of any classes I took in college that were even remotely off topic like that.

I think the most outragous class I took was beginning welding. Just took it for fun ya know... but then my College didn't believe in fluff courses like 'courtship and marriage' or 'Adulthood and Aging'. One would think you'd learn either or both of these just by going thru life on your own.

YES please explain these classes :spin:

Phil, welcome to the Core Curriculum, where universities make one last effort at catching university students up to seconday school levels. Oh, and conveniently pocket more money.

I've only had research credits and writing seminars the last two years, so I'll post the year before:

593 -- Visual Rhetoric -- A
452 -- 19th Century British Lit -- A
592 -- Fiction Seminar -- A

401 -- Modern English Grammars -- A
597 -- Composition Theory -- A
483? -- Editorial Internship -- A

596 -- Classical Rhetoric & Theory -- A
499 -- Readings: Australian and New Zealand Literature -- A

Those 400-levels are somewhat a pain; they're split undergrad/graduate level courses, and are less independently motivated than the 500-level seminars. Another way the university saves money...combine two levels into one, and leave the coping to the professors.

Nice thing is...you can hide from illiterate colleagues by taking internship, independent study, and readings courses. You design the curriculum in conjunction with a mentor professor or outside professional, and get a little more out of it that way.

Okay... the courtship and marriage class is actually the sociology of courtship and marriage, for one thing, and it fulfills my social/behavioral requirements for my college (damn complicated requirements at my school). The religion class fulfills part of my humanities requirements, spanish fulfills foreign language, and I'm a biology major, which explains the rest, I think.

The graphic arts stuff was just a hobby.

Intro to Political Theory (poli 2060) - A
Intro to Mass Comm (MC2000) - B - attended 4 classes this semester
American Presidency (Poli 4023) - A
Honors Seminar on Citizenship - B - Bastard counted attendance
Latin 2053 - C - 3rd and final Latin required for "mastery"

Overall GPA = 3.16 (High school GPA was 3.61, interestingly enough...)

None of my classes were outstanding this semester... none were particularly odious either... though Mass Comm may have been, had I gone, or studied. I'm taking two senior-level histories: Honors Seminar on American History, and Colonial America, and two senior-level poli scis: The Middle East, and Russian/Eurasian Politics. Should be lots of work, but pretty interesting.

Have fun. Leakynips

It's a psychology course. Basically, developmental theory, but not applied to children (as it is traditionally), instead applied multi-dimensionally to people at all stages of the aging process. (alternativly, a look at what happens as we get older, from a psychological perspective). Somewhat interesting, hindered by the fact that the prof as a complete douchebag.

I didn't have to take it at all, but in my first go at college, I was a psych major, and thus amassed a fair amount of hours there, so I've been toying with the idea of picking up a minor in it. Hence Abnormal Psych last semester. I may or may not, but I am interested in psychology (though I despise the field in general) and if I can fit it in, try to take a course in the discipline here or there.

If you want to wonder about my course schedules, you should ask about last semesters Personal and Community Needs in Health Education. Fuck if I know why I had to take THAT, and you don't even want to know how insipid that class was.
