Recycling

Well, do you?

Newspapers, milk jugs, tin cans, glass, cardboard, pop and booze empties?

I am an avid recycler. Our neighborhood has a "milk jug" lady. She comes and roots through our recycling boxes and takes the jugs, tosses them into her shopping cart, and off to Save-On Foods to cash them in for 2 Save-On-More points each. We also have a lady whos bike is draped in plastic bags that she fills with our pop bottles. Recycling day isn't until Thursday but I put the jugs out curbside and she took them already.

Do you just toss it all, recycle all, recycle some, or does it depend on how busy you are?

We hold it all on-station until we're in international waters and then dump it in the sea.

All the nonbiodegradeable shit gets sorted (plastic, aluminum, etc.) compressed into dense discs about the size of a manhole cover and stored for removal & processing once we hit port.

We have to pay a deposit on aluminum cans in California.

One trash bag of smashed cans is about $25

So, um yes.

Actually I give them to my cleaning lady but they don't see the trash.

Paper, glass, and plastic goes in the trash.

DO NOT RECYCLE GLASS! My company makes Soda ash which is the major part of Soda/lime glass. Keep us in business! We also make the chemical that makes Pyrex heat shock resistant so break a glass baking dish for me too!

Thanks.

No, what is sad, is the local waste company was offering curbside recycling for a few bucks more, till some clever bastard noticed that all the nicely sorted bins got chucked into the same big trash can. Why? Recycling is not cost effective here. Oh well, fuck the grandkids!

I take all my trash to work and throw it in the dumpster.

Not sure where it goes after that.

Trash? You have trash at your house? I thought the bags were just full of empties.

We not only get an extra full-size bin to recycle glass, metal, plastic, and paper, we get separate full-size bin to recycle yard clippings, which will be turned into compost.

There's a law that they had to reduce waste going into the landfill by a certain percentage by a certain time. It's great.
