shortwave radio

does anyone here know anything about shortwave radio?

I just got one for my birthday, the instructions are in chinese and i cannot really figure it out.

these may be stupid questions but...

what is the concept behind a shortwave?

what is it designed to pick up?

and anything else that you can think of. I'd like to try to pick up some stations (am) in the states.

shortwave radio owns! you can pick up lots of secret spy stuff and scary morse code beacons that just broadcast a morse code letter(k for example) over and over all day and all night 24/7. and you can pick up these stations that have people in korean or german or spanish spouting random numbers off in no known sequence, i was reading all about them like two days ago
