FA Barclaycard Premiership Season 2002/2003 thread

ok so it a month away yet but theres transfers to be talked about. My team it seems are buying no one and have sold Samuel dalla Bona to AC Milan, and have released Slavisa Jokanovich from his contract, no one at the Bridge liked him anyway. A tightning of the financial belt is apprently underway at the bridge and it slightly worrying, although im sure we'll be ok.

Tottenham are rumoured to be interested in taking on Nuno Gomes from Fiorentina and Djetou from Parma although whether either of these deals comes to fruition is subject to debate.

Everton are being linked with numerous players from Gary Breen to Brian Macbride who would be swapped for fellow american Joe Max Moore, also mentioned is Nigerian player Joeseph Yobo, although he is also under scutiny by Arsenal apparently.

Liverpool have bought Diouf and Diao, and have also been linked with Rui Costa and Damien Duff, although apparently Rui Costa is on the shopping list of Spurs as well.

So as we can see, speculation is rife in the transfer markets, what i find interesting is that its all the smaller clubs who are making the signing as the bigger clubs such as Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, Leeds etc havent bought anyone, the only exception to the rule is Liverpool, but they are a strange side anyway.

i take all 'transfer gossip' with a pinch of salt. basically, football agents to as much as possible to fuel possible tranfers of players or at least make it known that someone is up for grabs.

for example, Gomes makes it known he wants to play for Spurs. Does he? Or is he using Spurs to 'advertise' the fact he is up for grabs.

We'll wait and see......The BBC reckon Gomes will probably sign for us within the next 48hours - so I could well be proved wrong.

Spurs have got Sicknote II Jamie Redknapp and also Slovakia's Milenko Acimovic.

We have also got (more or less) some up and coming 'star' Jonathan Blondel.

I think, personally, with Spurs - its a matter of getting the injured players back. People like CARR, BUNJ and DOHERTY - because if we do have a full strength defense, we should be ok.

Its the foward line I'm worried about.

surely getting Gomes would help you out then. I don't know why Hoddle doesnt like Rebrov, i always thought he looked like a decent player. Personally i quite like Gomes, he is a nifty player, a poacher.

Chelsea have signed De Lucas although apparently there is problems with his contract, Espanol, and Alaves, which doesnt fill me with conifidence. I wish Chelsea would get shot of Winston Bogarde, cos he is never going to play for us, and he does nothing and gets paid a mint. Anyway now that we have got rid of two players we should have some money for at least one transfer. I must admit i wish we stil had Colin Hutchinson at Chelsea, the man was great in the transfer market.

i do agree, Gomes is exactly what we need. and rebrov is quailty - except that Hoddle has totally fucked the mans confidence over. i hope he stays becaue old man ferdinand and ready steady teddy can only really play minor roles next season.

sheringham is obviously got one eye on coaching, at some point.

MOYES LANDS 'NIGERIA'S BEST'

Nigerian World Cup star Joseph Yobo has agreed to become David Moyes’ first signing as Everton manager and will officially join the club once his work permit formalities have been finalised. Everton have secured the 21-year old international defender on, initially, a 12-month contract with an option of a further four years at the end of that period, for a fee that could eventually rise to £5million.

The club has already lodged an application for a work permit and expect to hear a positive response in the next 7 - 10 days. The player himself will now return home to Nigeria for some well-earned rest following a busy summer of World Cup and transfer activity and will join up with his new colleagues when they return from their Austrian training camp next week.

David Moyes himself is delighted that Yobo has agreed to join Everton. “As far as I’m concerned, he’s Nigeria’s best player and I’m sure he’ll go on to captain his country,” said the Blues manager. “He played in several different positions for his country in the World Cup which us a great opportunity to use him just where we see fit. He’s also got terrific pace and he’s a good all-round player.”

"Tottenham have signed Belgian teenager Jonathan Blondel from Mouscron for a reported fee of £2.5m. The 18-year-old midfielder has agreed a four-year deal at White Hart Lane.

Blondel is regarded as one of the most talented young players in Europe and turned down a move to Manchester United six months ago.

He is captain of Belgium's Under-19 squad and played a leading role in helping his former club reach the Belgian Cup final and gain a Uefa Cup place.

Blondel underwent a medical at White Hart Lane on Wednesday before flying back to Belgium"

interesting signing.....

Perhaps Roeder will take us down this year, although we will still probably finish above Spurs.

rumours i've heard regarding spurs. bear in my mind these are the type of 'man in the pub' type bollocks.

- Sullivan to leave and join Rangers. Sully has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if he doesnt get first team football. if the bid is over a £1M he can go.

- fowler or keane offered to spurs by leeds.

- a star player based in Spain was offered £70,000 a week by spurs, the deal looked done and dusted till the player asked for £120,000

- Steve Carr is currently sulking and is in isolation in training sessions, because he wants to leave. Expect him to join his lover sol campbell at arsenal any day soon.....

"Claudio Ranieri has admitted that Chelsea's reputation as big spenders is about to become a thing of the past. Financial worries at Stamford Bridge have forced boss Ranieri to focus on the club's youth policy to bring new talent into his squad.

Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has spent heavily in recent years in a bid to transform them into a major European force.

But reported debts of £90m mean Ranieri is unable to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer".

I thought 'Mcmanaman' when I read that Spain story too, although 120k would be more than he would be able to demand I should have thought.

Ken Bates is the person I hate most that is involved in football. Well, him and Ron Atkinson, but I would be very happy if Atkinson got off the TV and went back to managing someone else (as long as it wasn't West Ham).

Atkinson for Spurs, I say!

interesting

more like slightly worrying although at the same time we have some really good youngsters at Chelsea and lots of them too. Just look at this line up for the first pre-season friendly, there are a few names you might recognise but all the rest are youth team and reserve team players, all under the ages of 21 i think.

In 4-4-2 formation:
Goalkeeper, Mark Bosnich
Right-back, Albert Ferrer
Centre-back, Mario Melchiot,
Centre-back, Robert Huth,
Left-back, Graeme Le Saux
Right-midfield, Boudewijn Zenden
Centre-midfield, Frank Lampard
Centre-midfield, Joe Keenan
Left-midfield, Robert Wolleaston
Striker and captain, Gianfranco Zola
Striker, Filipe Oliveira.

We also have John Terry who is recovering from surgery. Leon Knight is on loan for a season at Sheffield Wednesday to toughen him just a bit more after last season which he spent at Huddersfield and scored 17 goals. Mark my words, this player will be a cros between Zola and JFH, and will undoubtably play for Chelsea next season (if he doesnt then i will be very surprised as he is on the Mikael Forseel route) then there is Mikael who is recovering from surgery. Those who played in the world Cup were rested.

Whilst it is nice to sign some big name players ( Mendieta would have been cool) i think if four of these youngsters come through and prove themsleves then we will be better off. At least now they will get a chance. I think Ranieri was given a five year contract because we are going to be rebuilding the team (again) , and i doubt we will win the Premiership this year, although i think we have the potential to take a Champions League position especially if Zendon and Gronkjaer can manage to play over half the games together. Last season they managed about forty between them, and thats not good enough. Also this is Zola's last season so i really hope we can win at least one trophy for the little wizard.

Ranieri has signed a 5 year contract as well (i think) so he should go with youth and build on that.

Hoddle will be looking over his back for the lumbering figure of Big Ron, who will be ready to pounce at the slightest slip-up by Hoddle (when he says that people with hayfever were paedophiles in a previous life, or something like that).
