Do you think Renaissance persons really liked the robust and curvacious ladies (fat girls), or do you think their obvious ability of them to be better models for works of art has simply caused us future folk to make inaccurate cultural assumptions about Leo's homeboys?

I think that larger chicks were popular at the time of the rennisance, yes. If you were fat, you were rich (but being too fat made you a glutton). Like having long nails and fine fabrics for your dresses, it was a sign of health and culture. The rabble of the time when rubenesuqe chicks were in fashion were thin. Body shapes have always fluctuated in popularity. Even at the beginning of the 20th centrury, you can find adverts that advertised for pills for women to make them 'nicely plump', with illustrations showing a fat happy girl next to an thin unhappy one.
It's a fad. that's all. Things will change and go back and forth, as all fads do.
Oh and fiend, that was a pencil drawing on watercolor paper, with the watercolor afterwards.

mmmsivart: i know that your question was aimed to PMG in particular, but i'd like to answer it with my own opinion.
first:
contrary to what the media of today shoves down your throat, women are naturally curvaceous. it has been only recently in mankind's history that we as human beings have been able to consciously change the way we look through better and more diverse foods, and the knowledge we have gained about how to sculpt and change our bodies through exercise and diet. women were designed by nature, evolution, god, call it what you will...to be, as you so vulgarly put it, "fat".
second:
what makes you assume that a "fat" girl makes a better model than a "skinny" girl? the beauty of form, shadow, and muscle extension can be found in any body shape. you can create a beautiful work of art from any model- it is the artist who pulls the beauty of form out of the model, not vice versa.
third:
my personal opinion is that you're trying to goad an argument with PMG, which doesn't make any sense. if you don't like the way she posts, then stop posting in all of her threads, giving her attention, and generally creating a fuss which will only ensure that she gets more accolades from those of us who truly appreciate what she has to offer.

The dissonance between your ideal intellect and your actual intellect make the Grand Canyon look like the gap in David Letterman's teeth.
Some women are naturally curvacious, and some women are not. The media isn't as biased as you make it seem, everyone with cable is free to watch Roseanne reruns.

I've taken a few art classes (though my skills are shit) and I know a lot of art students, most agree that the heroin looking chics who do fashion modeling make shitty art models. Curves are exciting, sexay, fun to work with, straight lines are usually boring. The emaciated thing doesn't look too romantic on paper. Obviously there are exceptions to this, but all friends and teachers I have discussed this with seem to come to the same consensus: In art, curvier is better.

Your personal opinion is retarded. I put my issues with PMG behind me a few hours ago when she made a Real Genius reference.
Why do you put "fat" in "quotations"? Fat is an adjective. Maybe you are too engrossed in its negative connotations (much pun intended) to realize the descriptive powers of the word, but that is your "problem," not "mine." I could use the word husky or obese or plump or chunky, but those did not embody the imagery I was trying to convey.
EDIT: Forgot to thank PMG for her INFORMATIVE answer to my question.

"it's so nice to see that you can debate intelligently, without stooping to the use of degrading language in order to appear superior in an arena in which you have no solid ground. it's refreshing to have the opportunity to argue with someone without the bother of having to defend against personal attacks. thanks for that."
that would have been my response to you if you had maintained a mature approach to my post.
in response, i can only point out how ignorant you are to my stance in this argument. i've also studied art, and taken classes outside of a high school level. i've also pursued photography, jewelry and metalworking, and pottery. i've worked with models, and before i moved to my current location, almost all of my friends were professional level artists, with artwork shown both at the campus level in the state university and pieces on exhibit at reputable galleries in other states.
for you to so easily dismiss my opinion without knowing exactly how i've formed it is your mistake. i'm not "retarded" for thinking that you still have issues with pmg, someone you've made derogatory comments about both in public and in private PM's. if anything, one can assume you're backpeddling now only to distance yourself from the issues you yourself raised without provocation just a day or so ago.
i don't want to further this discussion in this thread. this isn't TLF, this is a place to showcase art. if you choose to rant on about how retarded i am, feel free to continue the discussion in the lost forum.

Your first point is accurate. I employed an Ad Hominem fallacy in my previous arguement-- so, while I'll continue to maintain that you're basically a fucking retard as well as falsely pretentious, in wouldn't be logically sound for me to imply that those monsterous flaws have any bearing on the validity of your arguement.
Your stupidity and my logical fallacies aside, I was under the impression that-- although art is SUBJECTIVE-- most artists tend to be more intruiged by curvacious models, and, after hearing many art 'historians' proclaim proudly, "Leonardo da Vinci fucked the fatties!" I just wanted to know if you all agreed.

Have I made derogatory comments about her in both the public and the private arenas? Yes. Would I cry if someone posted pictures of PMG's decapitated head being eaten raw by the Wraith? Probably not. Does any of this have any bearing on my initial question or your elementary assumptions? It shouldn't, no.
I'll save my, "DIE, YOU STUPID GOTH BITCH!" moments for threads in which she states something that, in my opinion, truly warrants them. All I wanted in this thread was a fucking answer to my fucking question you fucking monkey cock sucking crack whore (oops, another Ad Hominem!).

The Sensory Overload forum is not strictly limited to actual postings of a member's own original music, movies, or literature-- I believe the discussion of such things is allowed too! I apologize if I was incorrect in assuming the same was applicable in the Asylum Art forum. If you don't want to further this discussion in this thread, you should've responded to my original question with a personal message instead of trying to make yourself a martyr on PMG's behalf. You seem to be the one backpeddling, no...? And, as for using the "sanctity" of this particular forum as an excuse for allotting yourself "last words," I commend you on that fine argumentative strategy... but that boat don't float.

as i've already stated to you, i'd rather not continue this discussion in this forum, let alone this thread. if you would let go of your pretense of righteous indignation for ten seconds, you'd realize that my reason for not wanting to continue this discussion here is because we are not having a discussion on PMG's piece, which is the subject of this thread. let me use short words so that it sinks in this time:
this is an art forum. we are no longer discussing art.
i have no problem with anyone expressing their opinions, negative or otherwise, of art in this forum. however, when the discussion turns into a personal attack that is no longer directly related to the thread, it should be moved to a more suitable location. if you want to continue to make an ass of yourself, i'd be happy to oblige you in the lost forum. k.thx.bye.

Peeyemgee, why the plane geometry? It looks to me like you're toying with ad and/or poster design. I'm not critical; just curious.
Amen.

I've always digged poster design... and you know I have most of the 1st half of my schooling in ad design and illustration.
but honestly. I was just fucking around... and I'd figure I'd post some of it.
Sometimes I have no idea why I do what I do.
