Back in 3d...
For now, at least. I got a couple new ones to share.

I wasn't really happy with the second, but it took 24 hours straight to render, which left me largely without a computer for that time... not something I feel up to doing over just to fix a couple minor problems. I'll get around to redoing it later.

i think the purple is nice...i think you should make me another ankh too. hehe. say ankh five times and you sound like a duck with a cold.
i like the concept of the second one, but it doesn't look finished yet.

What would you suggest?
The primary adjustments I'm planning are fixing the star field to look better, and possibly playing with the terrain material to find something that looks better.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

24 hours? Good Lord. Maybe it would help if you trimmed out all points of reference that cannot be activily see, like the terain behind the greenhouses and the backs of the greenhouses themselves. I've had to do this on some of my pics before. But 24 hours... thats mind blowing.

the only thing i can put my finger on is that it's hard to differentiate the sky from the tops of the greenhouses. they seem to blend together. perhaps a bit more color amidst the black of the sky? it looks like black airbrush and slightly unfinished.
but you don't have to listen to me. i don't even know how to run bryce and the affiliated programs.

:+: I really dig that second one.
The only suggestion I could add is that the nearest egg thingy on the left. The bottom half of it seems a bit off, maybe i'm just seeing things, but that is the only thing that stands out for me.

Fiend, that's just the angle you're seeing it, and the crappy texture I used (that, too, will be fixed in the new version). The eggs are all identical, so whatever's wrong with one is wrong with them all.
And Morg, I think with the new starfield it'll fix the sky problem. Can't explain it without showing it...
Oh well. The more I look at it, the more I want to redo it. So it gets fixed. I'll probably start the rerender tomorrow night. Now I just gotta go dig up that starfield.

Okay... finally finished revising the Arboretum one.
Took forever, and like 3 or 4 long-ass renders to complete.
So here it is. Opinions and suggestions welcome.

Erm.. I just realized I overwrote the old version on my hosts, so the one at the top is also the new one. Oh well.

Thats really great. I like that. The sky is just crowded enough to make you think of a planet with no atmosphere and thus really fits the "trees in a incubator" thing you got there.
What was the render time on that one?
I found a GREAT new Freeware terrain generator. Go to http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/ and download the program there. Look around too for all the plugins folks offer. I was able to make terrain pics that look like they came straight out of Omni and National Geographic magizines. They look like real life, no joke.

Yep. Seen terragen.
Render time on the second was... well... 3 nights at ~8 hours a night. Plus about 8 hours more for a solo render of the blue clouds (composited into the image later in Photoshop because for some reason they absolutely refused to show up with the stars in the sky). So we're looking at about 32 hours render time, not counting the various test renders and preliminary drafts I made while trying to get it "just right."

get that pic made into a poster. It's good. Too good to just stay on a computer, Not Making You Any money!
32 hours...I'd go absolutely apeshit. i once rended a 30 second animation in 3Dmax and it took about 3 1/2 hours. i was climbing the walls before it finished.

Hehe... well, remember that I do it 8 hours at a time, overnight. So I just turn it on and go to sleep, wake up and save the render and continue it the next night. It's slow going, but it gets there eventually.
And for a poster, I'd probably have to rerender it even larger, which would take much longer. But it's definitely a thought...

I'm into this for fun. And as an outlet, I suppose.
Despite what people may think, the market for 3d stuff is not easy to break into and very difficult to make a living in.
