How many of us here play a musical instrument.

Just wondering. I've been playing the guitar for about 10 years now and if I hear a song I like I usuially tab it out myself.

So, what do you play?

piano (16 years playing and 7 years as a private instructor)
saxophone (mostly alto but can pick up the others and play after a couple minutes to reorient due to difference in size)
clarinet (not very well yet)
guitar (just started actual lessons recently but know a few chords)
percussion (not drum kit or timpani but assorted other percussion)
voice (:::brag::: award-winning contralto, Carnegie Hall debut in February 1999 at age 17)
soprano recorder

I also just inherited a dulcimer from my grandfather but it needs to be refurbished and restrung before I can play it.

Piano for about 12-15 years. 1 1/2 years conservatory study.
Studied voice for about 3 years with teachers. (at that level I think it's an instrument, but whatever)
Saxophone for 1 1/2 years
flute for 6 months.

I played clarinet in high school. Now I wouldn't even recognize one. It's like a pen0r with holes, right?

I agree. Once it becomes a specialized talent, it's an instrument. Hell, some vocal pieces take far more effort and energy to master than many piano compositions, particularly in some of the less smooth languages, like German, or when you've got to fight to keep a phrase moving when you've got zero air left in your lungs.

Exactly. Well, more like a penis with metal bracing on it to keep it hard...

I have a steel stringed guitar in my closet. Got it for graduation in 1990. Took a semester of guitar class. I cried during my final. I can not learn this instrument... I keep meaning to take lessons again and haven't. Every other instrument has been very intuitive for me, I struggled with this and haven't won yet. Put off the battle for another day.

I have scads of TAB links at home... my 16 year old brother taught himself how to play guitar about three summers ago using tab, knowledge of piano (he's played for many years as well) and an instructional video. However, if you want to send me a PM with a list of links, I'd love to have them.
My problem with guitar is that I have very small hands... which also tends to be a problem with many piano compositions. That's why I love Mozart - he had small hands as well so he wrote music for small-handed people.

You know the metal band on the mouthpiece that holds the reed on? I would love to see a picture of that on a pen0r. Maybe even with a reed. That would be hilarious.

I tinker with my guitar a bit. It's a '54 Gibson hollowbody electric with dual, series one humbuckers. Its also numbered in the low hundreds (around 400 or before if I recall correctly) on the orange sticker inside the body. That began back in '54. Before that they were white. Its a sweet guitar and its been played so much by my father in the past, (he got it at age nine brand new) that there are grooves worn in the fret board. It stills keys well (despite a little intermittent rattle in A and A minor from the notches worn in the metal) for one so old. I love it. I'm not all that great but I can make some nice sound with it. I just wish I had a tube amp or at least a emulator to get the true quality out of those original humbuckers.

How come there are no sharp and flat signs on MS fonts? # and b just don't cut it, given that we have Ð and ‰. Am I the only one who wonders about these things???

You know, it's odd to compare a clarinet to a penis, because in order to play a single-reed instrument, one must soften the reed, usually done by sucking on it for a little bit.

I've never seen a ligature on a penis, but I suppose you could probably use an appropriately sized ligature as a cock ring...
("Ligature - Metal or leather strap used to hold the reed against the mouthpiece." from the glossary at SaxKing.com)

Have you thought about replacing the fret board? I mean with notches in the metal fret bars it must make for nasty note bending? I have a white Tanglewood ivory white metal strung guitar with 10 gague metal strings on it. Most people go for 11 - 14's but I like to bend the notes alot.. Hehe, It's also got a big hole in the bottom where one of my best friends droped it while he was fucking about back in my school days.
Gotta say though, it plays real nice.

I played drums for a bit. Not so great with a drum kit but put a djembe in front of me and I'll play til I bleed.

Just started learning guitar in February and having a blast. TABs are fun for learning songs and impressing friends or whatever but I wouldn't say I could play guitar if all I could do was play off TABs. I know the six basic open string chords, and two minor chords so far. I'm a very slow learner in most things so I've committed myself to taking a while with this. I currently own a Stratocaster and am looking to pick up an acoustic guitar, as well.

I've played the sax for about 17 years. Alto and tenor. I used to play in a band called Junkduster. Boy howdy, were we ever cool!

When I was a kid I played the bongos, trumpet, french horn, violin...never got very far with any of those....I have been playing guitar for 13 years..(Martin Sigma Acoustic) self tuaght and cant play anyone elses music...its a great stress reliever to just sit and pick...I took up the keyboards a year or so ago...a unique experience...I am teaching myself by sound as I know nothing about the keyboards..from the very lesson I have played almost exclusivly with my eyes closed....the fingers seem to just know what to do...and when the dont, the ear is sure to yell out, bloody hell, that sucked....
