Question I'm being charged!!!!!!

This is directed mostly towards the limeys, but yank input is also welcome...

This morning, on the way to work, the police had stopped the traffic on the southern approach to the Blackwall tunnel due to a collision involving two cars in the fast-lane (limey roads - far right)
When I arrived at the front of the the blockage and spoke to one of the other bikers he said that the police had asked them to stop until they had removed the car, at this time I was not aware that there was an accident but could see the two cars in the distance. The police towed the front car to the side of the road and had exited their vehicles on the side of the 4-lane road. I assumed that the car had been moved and proceeded very slowly along the road, passing the remaining car, I saw that they had collided, I then kept as close to the middle median (4 lanes away from the police on the hard-shoulder) and was pulled over by them. They stated that I was to be charged with failing to obey a police order. There were only two of them on the scene and no attempt was made by them to place an officer where the traffic had been stopped to inform us when it was safe to proceed. They were relying on second hand knowledge gained by people asking those who had been told to stop.

My question to you all is this, I approached safely when the instructions handed to me by the other bikers had been fulfilled by the police, I had not been there when they told people to stop and why, and yet they pulled me over. They took my details and sent me on my way, is this something that I should be worried about or would they have issued me with a citation (or arrested me) there and then.

In view of this truely mindblowing response which as helped me no end, I bestowe upon you the great honour of having named my anus "tack".

I have always had problems discussing toilet-time in the open and will be able to say, without blushing, "I had to wipe three time to get all the shit off my tack" and "I had to visit the doctor in order for him to prescribe a salf for my itching tack"

All in jest though,

Does no-one have any advice for me?

talk to a lawyer. thats my advice. sounds like sloppy police work to me, so you should get away with it. especially as you had not been issued with a police order. if they didnt want people to moveup then they should have cordoned off the road with barriers of some kind.

fuck it, if they took your details and sent you away then dont give it a second thought untill it crops up again.

if they send you a fine or point on your licence or some shit, then get in touch with a laywer, but i bet nothing ever occurs about it.

if you want to make a complaint about the conduct of the officers involved then direct it to the PCC (Police Complaints Commission) the address is on the met police website i think

unless im very much mistaken, fuquall would be the accused, therfore he would need someone to defend him. barristers work for the prosecution, lawyers work on behalf of the defendent.

so the answer to your question is no, i mean Lawyer.

Interesting distinction I was not aware of. Trivia point to you.

Edit: Or not; apparently I can now give some types of points but not others.

ok trivia points can only be given by admin (as far as i know). they are given after a game of trivia which takes place in chat, normally we are given warning that trivia will be taking place.

the point you should have awarded me is a culture point, that is the type given for displaying knowledge.

ok.

A lawyer is an American term for a combination of a solictor and barrister in English court systems. A solicitor instructs a barrister regardless who he is representing (defendant or plaintiff) a barrister argues the case in higher level courts on behalf of a solicitor. The person who stands in court defending a person in lower level courts is refered to as an advocate.

So I would need to employ an advocado right.......mmmm veggies...

Fuquall is correct, in the UK, a barrister, instructed by a solicitor hired by the defendant or plaintiff, is responsible for arguing the case in a court of law.

A lawyer can be used to mean either a solicitor, or barrister, and in the US, where there are not the two tiers of legal representation, 'Lawyer' is the preferred term.

I believe that what you meant, instead of 'speak to a Lawyer' was 'seek Legal Advice'

which was pretty much what he was doing here.

thanks for that.

if 'we' count as legal advice then he is well and truly fucked.

if you have a problem, if no one else can help you, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire, the limeys.

I wouldn't go as far as stating that "you" qualify as legal advice, but who better to put a question of legality to than a group of criminally mis-aligned deviants like the limeys here?
