I like any work by leonardo da vinci for the most part, but his sketches are what i love most

(look familiar? i've tried to sketch this one myself, and failed miserably):

This one is not a very good scan, but i like it because it's rumoured to be a self portrait of sorts, and he looks almost comical:

When i get my scanner installed again i'll scan some from a book i have...

A mixture of aesthetics and the story behind this painting both haunt me:

I don't exactly know why I like this, but I do. Very much....

It's called 'Weeping Wraith' by Stephen Brayfield:

and lastly 2 other favorites that I couldn't track down..

one is "Innocent" by Ohtello.. or something like that.. a green on yellow grey painting of a tree with a serpent wrapped around it.. and a naked woman kneeling before it..

and lastly.. I have searched and searched for this painting that I saw a while back.. I can't remember the name of the work or the artist though..
but it is looking into water.. all green and grey and blue of a woman drowning.. very peacefully.. you're not sure if she is alive or already dead.. it had a really beautiful feel to it though..

I went to ComicCon here in San Diego on last Thursday - guess who was at the Slave Labor Graphics booth... yep, Jhonen Vasquez in the flesh. He signed my copy of Squee. Ironically, he was a bit snobbish - showed up an hour and a half late, then barely glanced at the people who'd just bought his comics. Unlike the other Slave Labor artists, Vasquez also refused to doodle on anyone's books. Roman Dirge, who is of comparable fame for Lenore, signed and doodled for everyone. Basically, Vasquez sort of reminded me of the type of person that Nny would kill. Stuck up and better-than-thou sort of shit.

Anyway, was cool. Pic of Vasquez is attached, since everyone seems to wonder what the hell he looks like. He looks like Nny, basically. Except sort of transvestite. Lipstick and stuff, you know. I guess now I'm the kindof person Nny would kill... sigh...

Leaky.

he DOES look like nny. that's...disturbing.

not to defend him or anything, but i know that lately he's been a little overwhelmed with "wannabe" fans who are obsessed over invader zim that have been stalking him. imagine having your better work overlooked in favor of your "straight job". i see these people every day, and they're...morons. they have no interest in reading jthm or squee, they just want him to do zim forever and ever and ever.

*shudders*

I really liked "Zim." Is it really so bad that people recognize him for his "mainstream" work? Can't he handle fhe fact that he has a commercial success and the things that go with it?

title: Judith
Gustav Klimt

I dig his stuff

I like alot of Diego Rivera's work, but esp his frescos. This one amuses me. and is ironically called:
The making of a fresco, 1931 at the San Fran art insitute.

another artist I dig is Gluck She was a British artist who's best work was produced during the 1920's and 30's._ She mostly painted flowers for the upper classes but also produced portraits and paintings that reflect the Jazz age and the fashions of the time._She also dressed like a man.

I can find no examples of her work right now, so you are SOL!

and also:

title: Duchesse de La Salle
by Tamara de Lempicka

more of course, but that's enough for now

i liked zim too. and there's nothing wrong with being recognized for a more mainstream piece of work. my personal opinion is that he just wasn't ready to be shoved into the limelight like that. i can't speak for him though.

If anyone can find a picture online of a painting I saw at the Hirshorn in DC called "Jesus Held by Half Naked Men" I will give them a culture point. The Hirshorn is a shitty modern art musuem (a redundant phrase, I know), and the only part I enjoyed was this painting. About seven men with no shirts on are holding up Jesus, the men have really square jaws, it makes them look like relatives of Superman. Sorry I can't remember whose work it was... BUT FIND IT, GODDAMN YOU!

Theodor Kittelsen. A norwegian artist who died in 1914 IIRC

His artwork portrayed here exemplifies the scandinavian concept of "tungsind" (heavy or burdened mind). I love all his work and have all these (and more) hanging on my wall in poster format
