What the rate of counterfeiting like in theUS? Have you ever been given a dodgy note? It occured to me that because they are all the same size, same colour etc then it must be somewhat easier to counterfiet than other money, or is this not the case? I never really looked, but do you have silver threads through the notes, or holograms? I know you have watermarks, but are their other security features that are hidden but can be detected easily by a shopkeeper with a piece of equipment or something. For example, in the UK, we have special paper that looks funny in UV light or reacts to certain types of pens being written on it. Does the greenback have this?

I googled this a while back. I think that the US dollar is the most counterfeited in the world, as I recall. The North Koreans have made quite a lot of excellent quality counterfeit dollars in particular I think.

The notes don't change that often, would be part of the problem. (unlike here, where I guess that they change every 7 years or something like that). Here, amusingly, the last fiver think it was the fiver) had to be recalled because the counterfeit protection could be rubbed off, although I think that they have now reissued a safer version.

Yes. You can quickly mark the bill.
They have like you mentioned, a watermark, and a strip that is visible upon holding the bill up to the light.

Color changing ink.
Microwriting (been around for a while, I believe)
Closely spaced lining.

With the marker, it just reacts with woodbased paper.
If it's real, it'll be fiberbased.

ive seen many a fake bill passed in the dark resesses of a club\party...usually used for purchase of illegal things..not like that person will check it out and spend any time looking at it...ive never had one myself but ive sure seen a lot of em...
