/dev/dsp is an OSS device, so you shouldn't be using it unless the application only supports OSS sound drivers, or ALSA doesn't support your soundcard.
If you still want to use /dev/dsp, but you're using ALSA drivers, make sure the alsa-oss compatibility libraries are installed, and that they match your main ALSA library version.
