Gonna take a little ride, gonna take a little trip

Well, this upcoming weekend marks one of the last free weekends I'm going to have before the 6-month (and possibly longer depending on our war footing). I want to spend it well. Here are two options.

One, we can make the Appalachians (sp?) in about four or five hours. We leave on Friday afternoon after work, camp out Friday night, hike/wander around all day Saturday, camp Saturday night, come back Sunday morning.

Two, we can drive up to Acadia (New Hampshire). A friend of the family owns a cabin up in those parts so we'd have a place to stay, and again, wander and hike and so forth.

I'm very eager to go inland a bit and see autumn because I'm going to miss most of it...so...given the choice...which would you choose?

And...while we're on the subject...I decided that when I get out I'm going to hike the Appalachian Trail before returning to civilization. Anyone done it? Anyone want to do it? Lemme know...

Strictly on the up 'n' up, o' course.

Amen.

My ex father-in-law is the "Del Doc" in this article. I think this is the 3rd or 4th time he's hiked the trail. He and my mother-in-law left yesterday, after a few days home, to continue in Carlisle, PA.

One of the perks for the grandchildren is that Grandpa comes to their schools on career day in full hiker gear and talks about his experiences.

Acadia is in Maine, not New Hampshire. Unless you know of an Acadia I've never heard of. Fiend lives up near there and yes it is beautiful this time of year.

Stay out of NH, you filthy, leaf-peeping tourist.
