Downloading in IE

I've gotten into the habit of occasionally downloading rather huge files (~200 MB), and the way IE downloads, it automatically downloads to a temporary directory, then moves it to wherever you told it to save the file. This is annoying since it takes about 5 minutes after the file finishes downloading to move the damn thing to where I want it.

Any idea how to tell IE to just skip the temp directory and download directly to where I told it?

Umm... using Win2k, IE 5.0, if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

Don't think so. You will either have to install a download manager or use an alternative browser(mozilla downloads straight to where you ask it to).

Two links to download managers that you might want to look at(they both have free versions for download that'll do what you need 99% of the time).

Ah, damn. I've tried most of the other browsers, and except for Opera, none have really appealed to me (and Opera always seems to come up with errors for some reason). Well, I suppose I could install a second browser just for that site. I don't really like the download managers.

Thanks anyway.

It really shouldn't take 5 minutes. It should be done almost instantly. Even if you were rewriting it, it shouldn't take that long.

The files average ~200 megs. The temp directory and where I'm trying to download them to are on two separate drives. Moving between drives takes longer.
Oddly enough, though, when I tried saving one to the same drive, it did the same thing. Apparently it copies then deletes, rather than simply moving. Go figure.
