Post 3 good books....

Come on people... I am doing an ISU (Indipendent Study Unit) for english and i need to find 3 books that have something in common that i can write a compare and contrast essay about... What are all of your picks?

Any suggestions?....

I want to do A Clockwork Orange, The Fall (Camus) and I am thinking of something like Titus Andronacous(Shakespeare)... But i do not know how i would tie the last 1 in with the rest so i need new suggestions....

Actually I should have just said war, because war is just an extension of politics.

plus i think you'd find the whole bit fairly interesting, i know i did when i wrote that report. i liked the history, but you can squeeze in some violence and sex if you try hard enough.

L'Etranger - Albert Camus
Moon Palace - Paul Auster
This side of Paradise - F Scott Fitzgerald
or, if one bores you:
Reveries of a Solitary Walker - Rousseau

Common theme is man's fight against opressive peers; existentialism plays an important part too.

does it have to be authors that are long dead or can contemporaries do? i suggest:

desperation-stephen king
the regulators-stephen king
danse macabre-stephen king

haha. ok, the first two, if you haven't read them yet, are great to dissect from a literary point of view because they both have the same characters, but in different towns and settings. sorta like a "what kind of person would they be if..." thing. and the third is a nonfiction look at contemporary horror, from the written form to film, and all mediums in between. you could use all three to form an essay on contemporary horror literature.

Malory, Complete Works (king arthur stuff)
Silko, Ceremony
Mones, Lost in Translation

The first is old, old, old...if you're not accustomed to Middle English, you may wish to get a hold of a Modern English translation of the stories. The second two novels are contemporary (within the last 15 years).

The common theme is questing, of spiritual struggles, and of "doing the right thing." You could also tie in Spike Lee's movie for kicks, if you're feeling really twisted.

All have to do with forbidden kinds of love. And they are all sensational literature.
