Anime Review: Princess Mononoke

Well, I'm not original as I've said before. And I liked CAL's daily movie review. So, I thought why not contribute something to the forum? And since all I really have to offer is anime, that's what it'll be.

My plan is to every few days review a movie or series, and post my review, along with the movie (or the first few episodes of the series), & anything else I think is worth posting.

I'm going to review Princess Mononoke first. I need to say first, that I'm reviewing the *japanese dialogued* version, with subtitles. I'm posting that version of the movie as well. This movie in Japan was called Mononoke Hime (Hime means Princess).

PLOT:

Set during the Muromachi Period (1333-1568) of Japan, Mononoke Hime is a story about a mystic fight between the Animal Gods of the forest and humans

On the side of the Animal Gods is San (Mononoke Hime), a human girl who was raised by the wolf god Moro. On the side of the humans is Lady Eboshi, who tries to build a kingdom for oppressed people by cutting down the forest for her iron making operation.

In the middle of this fierce fighting for survival, Ashitaka, an Emishi boy, struggles to find a way for both sides to coexist. But the fighting just becomes more and more bloody and all hope seems to be lost...

REVIEW:

This is by far my favorite anime movie ever made. The plot is great, the animation beautiful, and the voice acting wonderful.

The movie showcases a battle between humankind & nature. Watch if you want to know who wins.

Logan, they already have in Japan. There are stuffed animal ones that have a string attached so that when you pull it, their heads shake

I found a bunch of stuff like that on Ebay, check it out.

thanks for the link! my company sold princess mononoke shirts when that movie first came to the U.S., and i was always curious about it. but it's one of those things that slips your mind after awhile.

I loved Princess Mononoke when I saw it in the theater.. they need to release more anime movies in theaters. I'd go see them.

Chantrea, I appreciate the anime advice. I love the stuff but have no idea how to discern which is good and which will suck.

My favorite is ghost in the shell. Could you perhaps post a link to download it sometimes. Perhaps post links to others that you think that I might enjoy.

No prob! Sorry if it's a little slow, the movie is hosted on my FTP right now.. and my cable company has an upload cap for me.

In the future, I'll put this stuff on my website. The download speed there is very fast (over 100 KB/s). Just didn't have the space to host this movie at the moment.

Somebody convince karen that it is worth watching.

She HATES anime, and refuses to watch it whenever I want to rent it.

I am as unversed on anime as they come, but I still wanna rent that goddamned movie.

So somebody explain to her that just because it is anime, it is still a great flick by any standards.

Also, rent the movie Paint. This is a great film. It's like a Disney movie, only with violence, blood, and intelligence *grin*.

In Japan, this is the 2nd highest grossest film (not just anime, but of ANY film), of all time. The #1 highest grossing is Titanic.
