K-Meleon 0.7

K-Meleon 0.7 was released today, get it at http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/download.php .

I've converted a couple of people here to KM already, but for those who've never heard of it, it is the fastest, the smallest, the most customisable, and the most compliant browser available. (Opera's slogan is "The fastest browser on earth" or some such bullshit, marketing slogns do not = fact) As far a compliance, well it's a 3-way tie with Moz & NS6 because theyre all built on Gecko.

Anyway, yeah i know this should be in WIT but we've been working on this release for over a year and im pretty pumped. It really is the best browser for those who dont thrive on frivilous features. There's no mail client, no instant messenger, no html editor, as if anyone ever uses them anyway. Tbere is a macros language (courtesy of yours truly) and menu and accellerator and tooolbar configuration that let you do literally anything with this browser. dont ever use the edit menu? get rid of it. want to press cntrl+a to post a new thread at asylum? bind a macro to a accelerator key. want to highlight a word and right click it to search at google or dictionary.com in a new window? bind a macro to a context menu.

so get it already http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...n/kmeleon07.exe

No need for binding on my part with Mozilla. I'mma check out the browser on the merit that I used it way back and it seemed okay.

where is that in Moz? im running 1.1 and cant find it...

anyways, that was an example. google/dictionary are probably the most useful, but you could set a context menu/macro to search asylum for highlighted text, or any searchable website for that matter. or you could set a macro to email yourself the highlighted text if say you thought it would help with a school project. you can do really anything.

I'm running Mozilla 1.1 as well.

Highlight text and right click. Below "Select All" you'll find "web search for:" and then the text you just selected. Granted, it uses search.netscape.com to perform the search, but I think that a few moments poking around with options should fix that.

ah, never noticed that before. it's a shame it's there whether someone needs it or not, and "the net" is obviously netscape since they fund mozilla.

can you highlight text then hit ctrl-s to search gooogle for the highlghted text? can you highlight text then ctrl-d to search dictionary for th ehighlighted text? can you search anything but netscape for that matter?

ctrl+s = save
ctrl+d = nothing

I'm not a power user so I really don't know or care about such features. I'm perfectly content with doing everything manually.

The idea is pretty good, though. I'm sure there are users out there that do go for that stuff.

What I want to know is this: What' the hell is up with all this "mouse gestures" crap?

mouse gestures is like the new fad, you have people who love using the keyboard and want keyboard shortcuts for everything, it's onlyl natural that the complete opposite would conjoin and appear. the people who want to do everything with a mouse.

the mouse gestures are mouse movements you pre-record and bind to certain actions (this is available as a KM plugin but is NOT k-meleon functionality, this falls into the 'frivilous features' category)

say, you recorded a gesture of moving the mouse up0.5-down1.0-up0.5-left0.5-right1.0
that would indicate a cross, or plus (+)
so moving your mousei in this gesture woud do something

The only thing ive ever found them handy for are things you use very frequently, in my case 'history back' and 'new window'. hotkeys work just fine for that.

What he said was:

Can you make K anchor all the net windows into the main window. Or something like that. Hell if I know.

He either hasn't looked at the layer plugin for tabbed style browsing or K-Meleon is doing something funny and not letting Windows XP stack it's multiple windows into a single entry in the task bar.

At least, that's what I'm guessing he's asking.

I changed my search option in Mozilla. So it's now using Google instead of Search dot Netscape.
