In the last two years of the Viet Nam war the Air Force sent me to Lowry AFB in Denver and said,
"The Viet Cong must not get past the Rockies. Your country, nay the entire free world, is counting on you. Don't fail."

By God, I kept every one of those slanty eyed bastards at bay. Not one got through.

I and I alone paved the way for Al Gore to invent the internet which has given you this life.

Praise me, fear me and praise me.

Erm... there was a fair amount of time before that spent but we were either drunk or stoned or both so that wasn't exactly time spent saving your parents from the Red Horde.

How in the hell did you put up with the AF for 9 years, G?? One term was enough for me (of course I had a 17 year stint as a Navy brat too so maybe that was it).

Well, at the three year point, that $11,000 re-up bonus looked mighty juicy. Glad I did though, got to see more of the world.

To MstrG, and the rest of you vets, thank you. I appreciate your service to our country.

Amen.

p.s The jackass and 'nam? Heh. Git 'im drunk 'n' hodgy sometime, then mention the Spanish-American War. Yer guaranteed a long-winded 'n' pompous oration on his glory days as a Rough Rider.

Grandson of an army vet, as well as the great nephew (is that how it would work with my grandfather's brother? Geneology isn't my bag) of a vet of the same war (WW2).

My grandfather told me a few stories every now and then when I was younger. My Uncle Dale tried to teach me Morse Code and how to operate a HAM radio before he died. My grandfather got to ride through a typhoon on a carrier and had some amusing stories to tell about that.

Neither of them ever got shot, luckily, although the did get involved with some combat a couple times. Whenever I asked about it Grandpa would just say that it wasn't a pleasant thing to have to do.

My grandfather mainly did road construction for new bases and Dale was a communications guy.

I'm awfully proud of 'em both.

If memory serves me correct I think that Dale's son Vance almost served in Vietnam but never left the States because by the time it was his time to go it was over. Or something. Never did really press too hard about it when Vance was in Kansas.

On my mom's side my grandfather served in either the Navy or the Army. I don't think he ever went to war, but I just recently (as in just this year) found out he was in the military at all, so I didn't know. One of my mom's cousins was in the Gulf War and came down with Gulf War Syndrome and died.

So, yeah.

There have been various symptoms reported. I remember one symptom that someone reported was that whenever he ejaculated inside his wife it burned her like hell. Like he had acid jizz, or something. Something like that, anyway.

Lemme dig you up a link.
