This is going to be fairly odd, posting something serious in a thread so RIPE for humor, but acne was no laughing matter to me. I had it really bad as a teenager, and it made my life hell for awhile.
Then I read an interview with Cat Stevens in Rolling Stone. The article was accompanied by a full-page picture of his face (back when RS was the size of a newspaper). Somewhere in the interview, they asked him what his secret was for his flawless complexion. (I admit, a strange question to ask a musician, but you could see from the larger-than-lifesize closeup of his face that his skin was remarkable.)
He said he had an acne problem and his doctor had told him to never wash his face with soap. Just rinse it in hot water and rub it really good, and leave it at that. The doctor had also told him to stop popping them, and that the acne would get really bad, but as the beneficial bacteria re-established itself in his skin the pimples would go away and there wouldn't even be any scarring.
I took his advice and from that day on, I've never washed my face with soap. Sure enough, I looked like a pepperoni pizza for about two weeks, and then they went away. I only have one small scar from that time, and it's a miracle my face wasn't ravaged with pockmarks like Edward James Olmos'.
