All things considered, are you happy in life?

Let's see if this works.

Poll results are most interesting, assuming people tell the truth. Feel free to discuss if so motivated.

Absolutely.

Even more so as I've rekindled my love of math.

Things just seem to be working, though I am young and there still is plenty of time (hopefully) for things to go wrong.

I'm happy, but I'd like alot of things to be different.

I'd say I've got a pretty easy life with all the oppurtunity to do well, but I doubt anything I've planned will eventuate.

I'm pleased with things...there are a lot of things I'd like to be done with (school, job search, etc) but the journey is proving interesting as well. Who wouldn't like a little bit more in their lives, at least from time to time? I've gotten a tad more patient as I've gotten older, and have learned something of the fine art of delayed gratification.

Nope.

Life is all up in the air, what with the career having nosedived recently. Bloody GX. At least they re-employed me, albeit temporarily.

I have to make drastic changes, want to or not.

Well, life could be a lot worse, so I guess I can't complain too much. But I've got plenty of stress whether I'm at home or at school. Hopefully things get better, though I can't see how that's gonna happen. At least I've got my anime to retreat into. God knows what would happen if I had to face reality.

I'm happy most of the time and this is a problem because it robs me of all motivation. Seeing such flaw in this happiness makes it the empty happiness which people call complacency.

Sometimes I endeavor to become unhappy with my current state of happiness in order to progress, usually by means of various tricks of self delusion or materialism. Even when I succeed in doing this, more often than not, the act of partaking in a journey from one unsatisfactory happiness to the next will in itself cause me to become happy again, thus robbing the goal of all relevance. There is one joy in the doing and another in the having done. For me the former is absorbing and real, and the latter merely placates the ego.

Some people who are very motivated say to me 'If I had your brains I would do all this stuff, and be rich and successful and blah blah blah.' and I reply to them 'I would do the same - if I had your motivation.'

Such motivated people often experience their motivation as a curse of unhappiness, without realising that this unhappiness is the very gift which drives them to accomplishment.

i'd say yes. no elaboration possible, really. things aren't "going so well", but i don't really see how life could be bad (barring horrible mishap). i ain't got nothing and i ain't got nobody.

Yes.

I am very happy. I have a carreer in the expertise I have always dreamed of and I am well on my way to fulfilling my lifes dreams.

I have gone through my share of fuckups, but I feel I am a better person for it. Everybody is bound to fuck up at least once. Would you rather employ someone who has screwed up and learned from it, or rather someone who has yet to screw up. I'm sure you can look at the fact that if you are the all mighty perfect being then maybe you will go through your entire life without ever making a mistake.

But anyways, back to the sucject, I am happy I have a job and I am in school just credits shy of a BS in EE. I still have everything going for me the only thing that could make me happier than I already am is if I had someone to share all my happiness with.

It is a strange world we live in these days. The only way to survive is if you, yourself, are also strange.

I'm pretty much in slight's camp here.

I am, for better or worse, an eternal optimist, and am almost always very happy with life in general. This, despite the considerable handicap of having more bad qualities than good, and being more or less a complete shithead. There is so much in my life that I hate and urge to change, but at the same time, I'm always pretty satisfied with things, which puts my motivation on the really low side.

So I guess a short answer would be that I love life dearly, but don't have very many great reasons for feeling as such.

This post came out a lost more angsty than intended.

I have to agree, slight's answer was pretty fucking good, and fairly close to me as well. I'm not quite that happy that much, but I usually am happier than not on any given day for any given reason.

Of course, the thread is more about overall happiness/ satisfaction with your station or trajectory in life than your daily degree of rosiness in your cheeks.

I'm probably about to be laid off. I have $12 to last until next Monday due to an accounting error on my part. I live in a hotel room with no tv or phone, in someone else's name. I woke up with some strange guy in my bed on Monday morning. My debts are in such default that I will never be able to buy a car or home, or even rent an apt. in my own name. I've been shunning all real life friends for no reason. Last night was the first time in perhaps a year that I didn't drink; consequently I was up literally all night tossing and turning. Things could be better.

I suppose it comes down to what your expectations of yourself are. If you have limited horizons, then its probably less easy to become disillusioned, ( I am not in any way suggesting that those of you who are happy have limited horizons). If you had a priveleged upbringing yet are earning an average/below average wage and driving an average/below average car , you may be less satisfied with your lot than someone who has really had to struggle through life. I suppose it depends on your perspective and expectations of yourself. Or whatever. I'm waffling. I'll stop now.

Oh, and in answer to the query: No, I'm not.
