cesium-137...dirty bomb substance missing.

today in my newspaper, there is an article about toxic chemicals being reported missing in december. this is the substance that the US is concerned that terrorists could use to carry out the whole dirty bomb thing.

i cant find much information on this topic on the internet, but i have the article here from todays atlanta journal constitution. it is on page A7 of the front page section...there is the tiniest paragraph about it, and i think this information is rather important.

does anyone else know anything about this???

TOXIC MATERIALS REPORTED MISSING

three small containers of radioactive materials are missing from a military base in georgia, officials confirmed monday. The containers of cesium-137 disappeared in December from the vaziani military base in the former soviet republic. Cesium-137 has several industrial and medical applications. It is oft4en cited as one of the most likely substances that could be used in a dirty bomb, in which a conventional explosive device spreads radioactive material.

The former Soviet Union appear to have lost quite a lot of stuff. The whole manner of the break up of the USSR hasn't made the world a safer place, although I sort of hoped that it would when it was happening.

i agree smug...i am surprised every day that i actually read through the news.
its so much easier to believe things are okay...but my desire to be enlightened for better or worse has me digging for information that just disturbs me...

its deffinitely bitter sweet, knowledge that is.
