The Asylum officially shifts to the Right

Last week I got a phone call from the National Republican Congressional Committee. A mont or so ago, I had gotten a poll/letter from them which I went to town on and sent back so they called me to see if I would be willing to answer a bunch more of their polls/questionaires.
SUUURE!!! I love to rant and pontificate about.... whatever.

So I just hobbled out to check the mail and here's this big ole manilla envelop from Congressman Tom De Lay's office.
Inside, I get a letter from Tom (yeah, we be homeys now I guess) and some forms to fill out and an award certificate.
NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD it says.
It also says that I am an OFFICIAL Co-Chairman of the Republican Business Advisory Council.
It has to be official because it has a big ole gold seal on it and is personally signed by Tom De Lay's computer!

Buuuuut WAIT! There's MORE!!!!!!!

I also got *drum roll* a full color 8x10 glossy photo of Dubya!

Since I now have Bush in my pocket, I suggest you all start treating me with a shitload of awe and respect. I wouldn't hesitate to have ANY of your neighborhoods carpet bombed.
And *I* don't need no stinkin' UN resolution either.

The rest of Asylum save 5 or 6 people. Fortunately, wonderaz tips the scale in our direction given his now esteemed position.

Since most of us are centrists, it only takes one or two from either side to tip the teetertotter one way or the other.

I'd dispute your assertion that most are centrists. Aside from the libertarians, who don't fit on the traditional left-right scale, I'd guess less than 25% here would identify as moderates or centrists.

It would be interesting if we could do a set of comparison polls on where everyone considers themselves to be on the political spectrum verses where everyone else thinks that they are. I consider myself to be center, though I'd bet that quite a few would place me somewhere between center and left.

From what I see out there, I think that most on the forum are fairly centrist; but the most vocal and outspoken ones are from either the left or the right.

Didn't you recently self-identify as somewhere left of center?

Not precisely. It was just a hairsbreadth left of center, not far enough so as not to be labeled center.

I would beg to differ with your self exclaimed 'centrist' view billgerat.
No, I'm not speaking from your posting of "Lets laugh at Dubya, email list" that you love to share with us, just your vehement attitude, and your posts therein.
I might shake my head at some of the directions our current president has been taking but you seem to relish trying to rub others noses in it. From his simple annunciation of nuclear to the latest interpretation of what 'insights' you gather from the latest speech.
I don't happen to agree with the concept of war but I also don't see how the latest actions of Iraq can't warrant some sort of action on anyones part. What point is there to have a U.N.?
Is it just a hatred of our President? If you feel he isn't supposed to be there you should try and change the electoral vote system. All the votes in FL won't change that fact.

PS. I don't agree with the electoral system, it's an outdated system that, in my opinion, made sense at the time with an ignorant persons that filled the US at the time. That was without modern systems that informs the public and the standard of ignorance at the time.
PPS. Socialism is also crap. Fine idea but who is in charge? absolute power corrupts.

Or to put it a different way, G, if Left is 0 and Right is 10, I'd say I'm about 4.9.

Fiend, yes, I have no love for Bush, and for most of his political pals either. The good most of them showed their hypocrisy during and after the Clinton impeachment farce. I am vehement in my comments about them mostly because craven hypocrisy and political clowns like Dubya really tick me off.

However, there are Republicans I do respect, such as McCain and Alexander. While I may not always agree with their ideas, I can see that they are usually well thought out and of honest intent. They are respectable men. If they were chosen by the party to run for the presidency there would be a good chance that I'd vote for them over the Democratic candidate.

And changing the electoral system is not necessarily a panacea. While it has its drawbacks, it does have some positive effects. No one system will be a perfect demonstration of voter intent.

It may suprise some of you but I once was a Nixon supporter (not really so suprising considering the numbnuts that ran against him).

Ok, I'll take a stab at this -- mostly taken from the list of people with more than 1000 posts. Feel free to re-orient yourself, or suggest others I've left out. I know, I know, very unscientific and it's unkind to label people. Tough shit.

OK. I can accept that - as your view. (And by your own list, the Left outweighs the Right, even with the Center added to it.) But I'd like to see everyone else on that list do the same for each of those listed. The logistics are too much to ever make this a practible exercise. But I think it would be interesting to see the results if it were possible.

I would like to contest GFY being "somewhere right of center." GFY has gone beyond "right of center" and passed on through to "rabid ape, screaming at the masses and flinging its own excrement at anyone who disagrees."

Im called a liberal on the freerepublic, I guess my common sense based stances that fall in line with stances they share dont make me even a moderate.

On POTP and here I am called right wing...in the face of my very very liberal stances.

Neither group wants me

constitutionalist

I dont agree with that, I disagreed with him and he didn’t do that to me. Certainly not everytime, and he was insulted first a lot of the time from what I remember.
