Politics Falluja 2 - why do we keep doing this?

Regarding the chemical factory Falluja 2 that apparently cost we Brits £,000's to help build (I believe we paid £300K in insurance 'cos we invaded in 1991 and so scratched the paintwork)

Is it just me or is it insane to give/support weapons production in countries where there is no realistic chance we would ever have a mutal defence pact with? Or am I missing a big part of the "global business" environment.

And by the way - if all the chemical weapons are being made on trains and trucks these days (cf Colin Powell), does this place still matter?

PS
If anyone has raised this elsewhere, I'm sorry I missed it - not too sure how to search the board yet.

Controlling 'Dual Use' chemicals is going to be pretty much impossible, surely? Chlorine is pretty necessary, for example in treatment of drinking water. But a simple reaction (with carbon monoxide, I think) and hey presto, phosgene.

As weasel spoor pointed out once in a thread, chemical weapons aren't worth getting panty twisted over in the way that bioweapons might be. Chemical weapons are horrible, obviously, but then so are high exposives.

Iraq got a lot of nasty shit from a lot of the players in this scenario. They were going to take down Iran who the US and others weren't too happy with.
Mistake.
