The Lost Prince
As a slight distraction from the qeustion of war that we are now in, I want to make a suggestion to people upon something worth viewing. I know this should probably be in the Sensory Overload but the audience that I think would find it most interesting is largely in here, I guess if Smug wishes tomove it at a later date he is welcome to.
The Lost Prince ewas produced for BBC Drama by Steven Poliakoff and is the story of the Prince that that history forgot. Set against a backdrop of unprecedented upheaval in Britain, The Lost Prince tells the very human story of a unique family and an extraordinary boy.
Diagnosed as an epileptic, and suffering from autistic-like learning difficulties, Prince John was unable to participate in public life and became increasingly isolated from his family. Stephen Poliakoff as ditrector tells the little-known story of Prince John, youngest child of George V and Queen Mary, whose short life spanned one of the most momentous periods in history – the political build-up to the First World War and the machinations of European royalty in the early part of the 20th century.
The casting of this two part film is absolutely superb, and it is available to buy (although I do not know whether it is available from BBC America or in American television format as yet) on DVD and Video. The soundtrack is breathtaking and the screenplay is wonderful.
For me it was a piece of history that I knew next to nothing about, and the manner in which the events of the time are portrayed largely through the eyes of a young boy is particularly succinct.
