This to me seems to be a world where the smallest most surface infractions of human rights are magnified a thousand fold and cause protestors to get screaming ugly by the hundreds of thousands while true crimes against humanity such as genocide, brutal opression and the fact that most nations in the world do not have truly representative Governments is simply swept under the rug and ignored.
If I were to suggest that some more gun control should be brought by the Federal Government, you would probably protest very strongly. It would probably seem more important to you than the plight of the chechens, say, and understandably so. Even though the situation that the average chechen finds himself in is rather worse.
In addition to all that, we have very high standards (I would say) on human rights, and we are proud of them, in which context I think that it is right that we should be called upon to uphold them.
