Oi Mugtoe! (Punk rock spam thread)
Friends of mine got a punk rock site together for their band, the Restarts.
Have you or Sigmo heard of them, do you rate them? (there are MP3's to download)
There very very good live, even if the drummer regularly turns up with little more than a few pots and pans to bash away on.

Sorry, skalie. I don't come in SO often, and I just noticed this. I don't have a functional sound card at work, so I'll have to wait til I get home this afternoon to check em out. Sigmo may have heard of em, but if they're an Oi! band they're not likely what he's listening to much. I think there are some very good Oi! bands certainly, though it's not to my taste. He's been listenin to a lot of Syd Barrett lately, and I've been listenin to Moving Sidewalks and Skip Spence a lot. We do have a ton of music, however, and I should do an inventory and update the list that's over a year old.
Speaking of which, check out our friend's band from Green Bay on the Ranch mp3 page. They're called The Pink Reason, and their singer is deaf.

Shear brilliance.
Can't do much with the MP3 you linked to at the moment as after installing a new motherboard all MP3's sound like they are being played backwards for some reason.
But......
And this is "no fucking bullshit".
I saw a couple of friends out of my window yesterday and raced out to ask them who "Mikey" from the Restarts used to play with, we'd toured England together, but the name of the band I couldn't for the life of me remember. Too much cheap cider on the tour I guess.
The band was caalled "Coitus", btw.
Anyway the conversation progressed, the subject turned to why Mickey was leaving the band.
Imagine my surprise.... "Kieren wants to play the gay scene more"
Turns out that the bass player is a shirt lifter of the highest order and that the drummer has also been known to enjoy the pleasures of a bit of male company "men are easier to pick up then women".
Bear in mind, this was after I'd posted this thread, these are friends from way, way back when.
I spent today going "mmmn, yeah he always did come across a little serious", a female friend of mine "mmmn I wondered why they never showed much interest in conversing with me".
Hearing that gossip was bizarre enough, hearing it after posting a thread for you and Sigmo was in a word bizarre.
"Funny old world" as they say.
Anyway, I wouldn't call them "Oi' , more "Crusty".

Fuck me, it just got funnier, I was asking about the Restarts boys with a couple of friends of mine I just met in the street.
I mentioned to one of them that it was necessary to form a band in the near future called "Ghey Beha", which is the Dutch way of saying GBH, "beha" means brassaire in Dutch, or however you spell that thing that keeps tits in check. The music will consist of GBH covers from the first two and a half albums.
The friend of mine retorted with the information that he was busy getting together a band called " High Heel Hitler".
Anyone of you cunts that doesn't consider "High Heel Hitler" to be one of the best band names of the century can suck PaintChips dick.

i like the restarts. a friend of mine recently spent some time squatting in london or some place like that and came back with some restarts on tape after seeing them play live.
i've also been listening to lots of dogshit sandwich and the hardskins. bloody good oi.

well, I finally downloaded and listened to all of the mp3's, and I liked em just fine. I've never heard em before, but I imagine Sigmo has heard OF them at least. I'll load up Sigmo's band at the Ranch in a sec and let you hear them. They were together when he was in high school and broke up shortly after they all went to college. They were crusty metalish stuff that most folks wouldn't like, but they had a pretty good following in the upper midwest in this particular scene, and they're on teh Profane Existence "Aftermath" comp as well as a split CD and 7". But they're best music isn't on any of those recordings, imo. The other band on the CD, EFIL, was really pretty hot, I thought. GImme a few and I"ll get one or two loaded up. And tell yer friend I like their band, for what that's worth.

I know a few spread around Europe, but most of them would be twice your age though I reckon, from the ToyLove generation.
I've run into punkish NZ'ers all over the show though, crusty squatters, travellers, postcard punks, at festivals and stuff.
