I was directing that to macker, sonja .... yes, they work, a few people have them up. Not sure what you're doing wrong. (BTW, the feature has been turned on for weeks, we just never announced it.)

not even if they're teensy weensy and as small as a normal one?
and is this because of space (in which case if theyre small it shouldnt matter)? or because you admins find them annoying as fuck?

We resisted turning them on for 2 years because of "forum clutter". We don't want to turn this into another ezboard clone.

They are, I only ever noticed them because I logged in today using an uncookied browser.
I just find the entire concept of avatars to retarded in the extreme. If someone wants some unique graphic to identify themselves, they can use their signatures. Providing yet another avenue for people to visually assualt you with their eyesores holds little appeal.
But hey, it's not my board. At least I provided a place for sonja to figure out her problems in setting up an eyeso^H^H^H^H^H^H avatar.

I can't see the avatars as I have them disabled, but I don't like the idea either. I don't have to see them, sure, but when new people turn up uncookied to see the forum, the implication from macker's post is that they will get to see (potentially) a whole load of avatars, giving this forum a similar look to a lot of other teeny shit (like spf). Which would be avoided, I guess, by making avatars only visible to forum members who wanted to see them.

Make them pop ups instead of avatars. That would be different.

I personally would find it nice to disable/disallow avatars and images in sigs. Force people to be identified by the personality they show in their writing I say. Of course then some people would actually have to read something before jumping to conclusions, but that would be a good thing I hope. Really I just want to be able to turn sigs on again. It sucks being at work and having to turn them off cause of the occasional inappropriate for the workplace sig, but I still like the text some people have.
Is it just me or do I stop making sense about halfway through a post?
oh well . . . deal with it.

I think sig's should allow animated images, but only if people featured exploding heads in them... because that avenue is still fresh, it hasn't been explored nearly enough.

i didnt realize uncookied visitors could see them. the point was that you would have to specifically enable them or youd never see an avatar. ill fix that.

Agreed. I turn off my monitor while perusing the asylum, because I never know if I'm going to accidentally see some mark of individuality that will just wreck my day.
I think we should all have an avatar, a blank square of pre-approved size available in a choice of beige, "desert sand" or light tan.
Once the power gets rid of those pesky postcounts, titles and "registered: ..." areas, we can each be assigned a number instead of a nick. Then all they have to do is cut the time it takes to edit our posts to, oh, about 20 seconds, and our assimilation will be complete.
