Happy St George's Day, limeys
He is patron saint not only of England but also of Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany and Greece; and of Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice (second to St Mark). He’s also patron saint of soldiers, archers, cavalry and chivalry, farmers and field workers, riders and saddlers, and he helps those suffering from leprosy, plague and syphilis.

Does that make him my patron saint? I'm not sure how that works. Or is it the birthday of the saint who shares my name is my saint day? When was Saint Brian born?

something i find most amusing is that when St patricks day comes around we have starting making abuit of thing about it (as in its an excuse to go and get plastered) we even have parades in London. For St georges day we do absolutely fuck all. nothing. most people dont even realise what day St Georges day is. we celebrate the irish's patron saint more than our own. and the irony is that the irish are the ones who are supposed to be stupid.

St Patrick was probably a limey, so he is one of ours really. It seems only fitting to raise a glass to the first in a long line of many limeys who tried to bring civilisation to that benighted isle. A 'Cromwell Day' would help reinforce that; Cromwell should have been lauded for finding two irish towns at all, let alone burning their vileness to the ground.

War on the Irish isn't war as such, so much as waste disposal. You know it makes sense.

To be sure, to be sure.
Rather get locked up in a paddy boozer than kicked out of a limey pub.

A lot of the Irish ended up in the UK too, pj, don't praise them yet. And I don't think that the large emigration to the New World was about love of space and opportunity, unless having food to eat is what you mean by opportunity. In the Blight, millions of Irish had to leave or else they starved. They built the canal that runs through the town that I am in today (they also built most of the UK canals, which is allegedly why they were called 'navvies', from 'navigators') on a dollar a day per man (although some owed six months service for their journey over, which seems harsh given that the journey was only 12 bucks or something).

He was Welsh I think! Certainly wasn't born a bog-trotter

According to the Catholic church histories, he was a Scot.
As for the superior attitude evinced by so many english toward the irish, it is only natural that in their self-loathing and insecurity they should feel the need to lord it over their neighbors. After all, they are the bastard children of the dregs of europe, driven from fairer lands to the shores of that befogged isle, there to dwell in misery and inflict their misery on others.

Man, SimpleSimon is anti-English! How shall I take offense?
Not at all, that would be the English thing to do.
The subject of St. Patrick's nationality is a matter for debate (and will ever be, I suspect). And the reason that the Irish and the Welsh are not English are that although it was amusing to conquer them, that isn't any reason to fuck them. Jesus. That would be wrong.

Actually, not anti-english at all. Just couldn't pass up a chance to take a dig at your smugness, as you have been doing at the irish.
