sk8 or DIE!

I remember stenciling that on everything I could find in 1986.

well, it seems that at 30, I'm more inclined to the die part.

It's been over 12 years since I went skating. I'm not even sure whatever happened to my last board.

My spawn has taken to grabbing me whenever he sees someone skating on TV to show me.
He'll pull on my pant leg and say "Daddy, I want to do that."
So I started looking around at the skate shops again, and they make some nice decent mini boards now, with mini trucks and 50mm wheels. Just about perfect for him.
Had to order the trucks so while we were waiting for his parts to come in, I picked up another P.O.S. board for myself just to putz around the driveway with him.
Went home, did a lap around the driveway, tried a kick-flip and almost landed it.

So then my ego goes, "pahh, this is gonna be NOTHING to pick back up!"

Did another lap around the driveway and tried to do one of those ol' semi massive ollie's out into the yard, just to see how high I could get.

I'm not exactly sure what went wrong.

The only thing I'm sure of is the board never left the driveway, and I landed 5 feet out in the grass.
And I couldn't get up.
So now I'm eating Aleve's like they are candy, and waiting for my back to heal enough for me to try and destroy it again as soon as his trucks come in.

I guess I've just learned that I'm young enough to still try stupid shit.
And just old enough to feel it when I do.

Sounds like you didn't stomp on the tail. Haven't been for a while myself (last time I snapped my board on an 8 stair, replaced it the next day and haven't used it since outside of living room skateboarding sessions). It's all a matter of time, too much spent at school or work. Like the shirt says "work less, skate more." I think it's right, though if I'm going to be working less it'll hopefully be in vegas having sex with disease ridden prostitutes in celebration of graduating.

That got me to thinking.

Now I have to throw away my t-shirt that says "Never trust anyone over 30".

At least I get to keep the one that says "Never trust anything that bleeds for 3-5 days and LIVES"

I still have my board. It's a Lance Mountain "Dough Boy" with G&S trucks, Swiss bearings, and a set of G Bones wheels. Damn I love that piece of my past. I also have three other old boards. Of those my favorite is the Cory O'Brien with the Reaper throwing the fireball graphic. The late 80's-early 90's rocked!

If it's any consolation, BnB, I just spend a couple of hundred bucks for a new setup, discovered my balance on boardslides is not exactly what it was, and socking it on a rail still hurts. Lots.

a friend of mine has hurt himself terribly so many times from skating.
and whenever he has a torn muscle, or sprained ankle, or some other injury, all he can say is that he can't wait until it stops hurting so he can go skate again.

seems kinda pointless

It was nice at first, but now I got it all wallered out, and I'm ready to trade it in or have a husband stitch put in it.

We had a neighborhood garage sale today, and one of the neighbors was selling a skateboard. I used to skate some as an angry teen, I still have a Gator deck in the attic somewhere. I tried out the for sale board, and invented a new move called the knee/elbow rasberry. I don't know if I can do it again, I reckon I'm done with skateboards. I'm sure I'd knock myself out and drown on a surfboard these days too.

By the way, garage sales suck. I dragged all that shit to the curb, sat in progressively hotter weather, and made 64 stinkin bucks. We put all the unsold stuff in the truck and dropped it off at the goodwill store. I was trying to give stuff away at the end, and a dude was checking out an older vacuum cleaner that works. He wanted me to show him how good it worked before he would take it. Also, i noted that folks seem to want to haggle over a dime. Fuck it, just take it. A guy that makes and sells custom tactical rifle cases came by looking for stuff, and I got a business card from him. So I think the end sum of it all is going to leave me with less money
