blur - think tank

very clever
the record company, or so they say, massively swamped the p2p networks with fake files. song names mixed up, 6mb songs of pure white noise and so on.

i have downloaded maybe 15 files and while some of them contained just white noise some others are truely amazing.
one song sounds so much like 'the clash' it is almost frightening.

for all i know it might even be 'the clash'

i guess i have to buy the album.

I heard a lot of good things about this album, and it wouldn't surprise me that Blur has put out yet another great album. I'll have to look into it.

on the filesharing policing thing: record companies are finally getting wise. now they're sending out promo samplers to magazines and music critics with voice-overs. my bf has downloaded quite a few promo cd's lately that say something like "this is godsmack's new album, due out in stores on blah blah blah", right in the middle of each song.

i'm surprised that they haven't thought of it sooner.

at least they all haven't gone insane. i wish that there was a real way to measure how much positive or negative impact downloading has on cd sales. perhaps bands could have something on their websites where people could answer whether or not they downloaded the album, then bought the album, or whether downloading it made them not want to.

pitchfork says 9.0, and maxim says 1 star. i'm guessing that means i'll like it. i'm willing to gamble, anyway.

I like Maxim's album reviews. Especially since they worship Queens of the Stone Age

we bought the album 2 days ago and its even better than i had expected.

true, it is different but blur is still evolving. if you think about it, there have been very few bands over the past decade that manage to develop a signature so clear and present that it shows in every single song no matter what style or what category of music you want to put it in.

this album has not been written for America .... not at all....

as Blur album's go I think it's disappointing.

listen to it. It's not very Blur. It just sounds like it was written, in the same sense 'Song 2' was, with a general american market in mind. Where 'Song 2' was written specifcally to break the US market this album has been written to maintain that market that it managed to grab with 'Song 2'. I dunno, the fact that their last album, at least in the UK, was a 'Greatest Hits' album seems to confrim that for me as well.

song 2 was supposed to be ironic, as i understand it. what about 13? i don't know, i tend to assume people make music for the purest of motives, unless i don't like it. then they're WHORES. like primus.

who said Song 2 was ironic? It may have been being ironic in the sense of saying 'we can do this type of music too you know!' but it was utterly cynical in that it was written with a 'those yanks will like this and breaking over there will really piss Laim Gallagher off' idea in mind.

ironic in that it was a slapped-together throwaway song that turned out to be their biggest hit over here. which i figure was intentional. as you called it, cynical. i don't think of it as a crass marketing thing because it does not appear that blur is too concered with mass appeal over here. or, they are concerned but we are simply not interested. they don't get much attention, and i doubt this album will see much if any radio play.

"Crazy Beat" is the first song from them to chart on the Modern Rock Airplay charts in America since, you guessed it, "Song 2."

And don't ever knock Primus again. Canadian wench.

REALLY? I thought Antipop was their best album in years.

Ill probably snag the promo when everyone else gets tired of me playing it.
