The Italian Job

Just got back from seeing it. A remake of the 1969 film, though I can't remember who starred in that one.....hrm.......Benny Hill, right? Or was it Noel Coward?

F. Gary Gray directed it (who's starting to get a decent body of work as a decent enough director if you don't expect much more than a decent show, lots of wide lenses though), Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Donald Sutherland, Franky G, and an enormous fucking Samoan star in it.

I haven't seen the original and just went to the theater to see whatever started at 930 because there are a bunch of 13 year old girls here and I had to escape. Was pleasently surprised. I'm a sucker for Heist Flicks. I don't know why, I just love watching all the ingenunity and all the different variables falling into or out of place (even if they fudge a bit on the realism most of the time). Anyway, this is almost like a combination Heist flick and Car Chase Movie, and I am NOT a sucker for Car Chase movies but the three mini's in the subway thing was just too cool. All the actors were playing their parts basically on autopilot, outside of the actual heist stuff, there wasn't any depth to the script, but I was okay with that.

Not a classic, but certainly miles better than Fast and the Furious, and a heist movie at least as good as The Score. The movie was sort of like a combination of the two. Would be a great date flick, in any case.

Three stars.

Turning out to be a good summer for popcorn flicks.

I'll probably check it out tomorrow. I also enjoy heist flicks. Plus, it's got Ed Norton in it and well, he's good and some junk. I've actually been looking forward to this for a while. And the minis...those be my cars, man. Alas, I shall watch it alone. Nonetheless, it will be a nice break from grading that doesn't involve me using alcohol...yay.

Bah. No one will challenge the early Michael Caine for cool.

Can someone who's seen both say if the ending is still the same (I only ask this because I hear that when they remade the real Caine classic movie, Get Carter, they put in a different ending, which must surely have ruined the whole)?

The two main stars in the original were Noel Cowerd and Michael Caine.

and just because you and that ebert guy agree on something doesn't mean that you're RIGHT all the time and stuff. i mean, the next thing you know, you'll be in here saying that you just meant this as your own personal opinion or some stupid shit, like we don't all know that what you're really trying to do is pass yourself off as some high and mighty film buff who knows everything, like pj.

When I saw the trailer I thought the movie was going to be an extra long commercial for the BMW Mini.
