Sports Fuck me, good innings boys.

Unbroken parnership of 142 between Stewart (old geezer) and McGrath (second test and rising).

Impressive if not a little on the surreal side.

If it wasn't for someone having the brilliant idea of doing away with the sports forum, I'd have thought this thread was about another activity altogether. (Y'know, an abomination before dog and all that.)

Speaking of surreal.

Huzzah! I think that when Stewart does finally retire, we are going to look back and see what a great player he was. He doesn't seem to get enough credit, if you ask me.

Another humiliation for Zimbabwe, two successive three-day innings defeats. This must be how the Aussies feel when they do the same to us, a 'why bother?' sort of feeling.

South Africa to come, and that will be really demanding, as they are probably still the second best test team in the world. Before the SA tests start, we have a whole load of One Day International cricket, which I dislike more every time that I see it. Zimbabwe are a far better ODI side than a test side, too. Incidentally, the Australians have plans to scrap the world cup and have each team play 30 ODI games a year three against each other side (one hom, one away, one at a neutral venue) and crown a ODI champion team every year. I don't much like the idea myself, but as they point out, it might be popular with supporters and therefore produce more money, although it would seem to limit future entries into top-flight cricket, which might not be such a good thing.

They should get the tests over with and start doing the real deal.

I never did understand why all those british clubs were called tests.

Not the clubs, the international matches are called Tests. Same in rugby. I imagine because they are a test of playing skill, or something like that.

Incidentally, the venue for this test match just finished, Chester-Le-Street in County Durham, is the first new venue to be used for a Test for 101 years.
