her agent has claimed in interviews that the whole thing is supposed to be satyrical in nature; however, if you look at her new album, and all the song titles, what artist would make an entire album's worth of songs making fun of britany and christina?

she's gone pop because she can't sell otherwise, and for some reason she doesn't have the balls to just say it.

I read somewhere that she enjoyed doing this sort of music. All along I was thinking the same thing, after her last album failed to sell way too many copies she needed to evolve and make some dough. Heck, Rolling Stone referred to her as some sort of "Madonna."

She performed at the NBA finals game tonight.

Looked like Britney. Sounded like the same old Jewel. Same lyrical depth, same folky sound (albeit a bit more "produced), same impressive vocal skills.

If the packaging changes but the product remains the same, then good for her. Her work will never appeal to me too terribly much, but it's certainly a more filling intellectual diet than most of what the TRL crowd consumes.
