i bought a baby venus flytrap from wally world the other day. we've been amusing ourselves by watching it eat bugs, and sometimes catching them and hand feeding it.

last night we saw a fly in the sink so we turn the water on and wet it down, then caught it and fed it to the plant. unfortunately, we didn't take pics of that part.

however, a few hours later...




we see this.

at first we thought it was another fly. but no...the little mouth that we had fed it to was wide open.

so then we wondered A) how did it get out? and B)...




why isn't it flying away?

we blew on it, shooed it, and tried to grab it, but the fly was having none of it. it even posed for the pictures, as you can see.



eventually we figured we'd just catch it and feed it back to the plant. that proved more difficult than we imagined. every time we tried to grab it, it would just crawl up our hands.



it wouldn't fly away, even though its wings looked perfectly healthy. maybe they were still coated with the flytrap's sticky residue. i was eventually successful in catching him.




but then i figured he was such a thrill seeker that i would let him go unharmed.

Perhaps the water diluted the traps digestive juices to a point it realise that it couldn't eat the fly. Either that or you've overfed the trap. They don't eat too often usually.

the purple hair elastic is mine, but on his arm. my fingers are holding the fly. i was catching it on his arm, as he tried to grab it and it crawled up his hand.

but he's perty enough to be gay.
