I lived in jacksonville for a month or so, slight. Actually, Orange Park, but its right next to jacksonville.
Its an okay place. I got sick of it pretty quickly, though.

12. Washington, District of Columbia (see my comments for Sacramento, CA)
13. Long Beach, California (I just may end up there in a year or so)

Smug: Edenton, NC is right next door to my hometown and I lived there for a few months. You wouldn't like it.

Morehead City wouldn't be so bad though if you can put up with the tourist season. Besides, how can ya not love a town called more-head?

I went through it all and then realized that I don't want to live in any American city or town. Nothing against the united states, I'd just rather live as a hermit in the mountains, a la Jeremiah Johnson.

toronto...

Karen,

I'm in Ashland, Oregon right now. And Flocat, I live in Portland.

Both are nice.

Ashland is a time trap and Portland is a small and hip city.

I'd say, though, that anyone who received Medford Oregon on their list should take extreme offense.

The joy of living in London is that when you move out, nearly everywhere else seems cheap.

I could handle living a way from anyone in a place like Vermont, say, although as I have said before the risk of roaming married gay couples would necessitate the purchase of a high powered rifle (telescopic sight, so that one wouldn't have to get too close to the ABOMINATIONS before sending them to hell, where their own personalised testicle fork is awaiting them, ready blunted).

veeeery interesting. I would never live in norfolk, but richmond (which made it to page two) was a good place to live and I've been thinking of my time there a lot lately...

oaklahoma? I would have never even thought to look there.

and texas .. ahhh sweet texas.. the last time I was in texas I almost stayed. if there had been a few more hills I probably would have.

anyway .. what fun!

If you need hills, or even significant variety in terrain, stay the hell out of Houston. Damned place is so flat that in a bad rain storm the water pools up (3-5 ft deep) because it is unable to run off quickly.

Hotter and more humid than Washington, D.C., it doesn't even have the saving grace of ocean breezes. I've been here 13 years, and every summer is more miserable than the last.
