Of course change is always dangerous. No change is done without some kind of risk.
And yes, I enjoy all those things...well, I enjoy a couple of things (I could do without Flash) that faster internet speeds bring me.
But when it comes down to it, what good does it do me? If it's good, obviously it's good for me; but it's not apparent that simply because things are "new" that they are necessarily "interesting" or "good."
There's lots of things that this guy, progress, has given us, but I wouldn't say they made us any happier or did us any good. Take cars, for example. I don't know anybody who enjoys driving cars except under certain conditions. And yet so many people endure the morning commute...for what? Yeah, it's necessary, but is it doing us any good? Personally I'd prefer to walk. And then there's stuff that isn't even necessary, like developing missiles to deliver VX gas. What the fuck is that for? That certainly doesn't do anything but make people nervous. Progress.
And look...like I said..."unchanging" is objective, while "stagnant"--the assessment of that state as "bad"--is the emotional response, you sort of confirmed that with your reply. Sure, a lot of progress has been good, but it's because it's just GOOD, not simply because it's DIFFERENT, right?
