I'm hopin tomorrow'll be a bit more festive. However, there was one driver who tried to run over a couole of the Westboro Baptists.



Mixing with the Phelpites were a couple of girls from the local chapter of the Lesbian Avengers.



It's a family thing, at least. If that old Levitican law was good enough for Grandma, it's good enough for me.





Smug's really gotta love this stuff. I couldn't help gigglin the whole time I was there. Everyone was friendly enough. I'm not sure that the Baptists realized I was an abominator, though I conversed with several Avengers and one transexual who is a neighbor of ours while I was there.



I don't think I have him in these pics where you can see him, but there was a guy in a shark outfit runnin around when I first got here. He was on the side of the Abominators, but I couldn't figure out the significance of the outfit. Perhaps they just had one and wanted to do something odd.

Btw, looks like God blew up the shuttle.

It's the Episcopals and they're abominations that these folks are protestin at the moment. The convention center is just a block from our apartment. They're supposed to be back around lunch tomorrow, so I'll take a few more pics.

I guess the only thing I didn't get was the 'thank god for 9/11' sign .. shouldn't that read, 'thank allah for 9/11'? I will say that is takes no small amount of courage to stand on a street corner in texas, of all places, holding a sign that says 'thank god for 9/11'

I got a good chuckle out of that pastey kid holding a 'fags wed' sign with his index finger jammed up his nose .. his mother looking on with a 'well at least he's not putting them up his ass' pinched smirk on her face. (p.s. lady, kerry king want his sunglasses back)

9/11 was God's message to America to start making life hard for the fags, is what they are saying, I think. Jerry Falwell said it on TV (and Pat Roberts agreed), but I should think that Fred Phelps was saying it from the moment that it happened.

That group showed up at my college. A group of students organized a peaceful protest against them, mainly consisting of a few hundred students turning their backs to them. The haters did not stay long after that, from what I heard/read.

Its pretty obvious that they have such a wide array of signs to offend nearly everyone. "God Hates Fags," "God Hates America," "God blew up the Space Shuttle," etc... They are hoping to get a reaction out of gays, people that don't think gays are so bad, rednecks, old people, religious people, whoever.

Notice the girl in the jean shorts carefully videotaping the guy whose car has hit the curb. They are probably hoping to provoke an assault from someone/anyone who they can sue for money.

Thats the best sense I can make of them anyways.

All their signs are about fags (which description Pehlps claims covers more than homosekshuals). The idea is to convince people that God is going to take vengeance against those who disobey His law, and countries where His law is disobeyed. Falwell is basically the same (and Pat Robertson) in their beliefs. It isn't hard to find justification for those beliefs in the bible, actually; I am sort of surprised that there isn't more support for those views amongst those churches that favour a literal bible interpretation.

Incidentally, the Anglican Church's future may have been decided at the meeting that they were picketing. The American Episcopal Church voted to appoint a gay bishop (who has a boyfriend of some 14 years). If the appointment goes ahead, the Anglican Communion worldwide will probably split.

Im kind of uncomfortable with this sign , surely if they were offended so much by gay sex they wouldn’t need to take the time to draw it up and have a child hold the image up in order to make their point.
