california coast by helicopter

These people photographed the entire coast of California.

You can go picture by picture, which almost seems like you're seeing it by air yourself. Er... Anyway it's neato. (EVEN IF IT *IS* CALIFORNIA, YOU WANKERS. YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK, YOU KNOW. YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO READ THIS THREAD NOW, DID YOU, SO STOP BITCHING.)

It was linked in an article I was reading about Barbra Streisand being very upset about their picture of her wee quaint Malibu cottage:

Sweet. A californicated reprise of the video air tour idea exemplified in the "Oregon By Air" videos shot by KOIN of Portland, Oregon, several years ago. A great series of hour long videos, touring the entire state from the air in a helicopter. They are seperated into several regional tours within the state.

I watch them occasionally to remind myself that yes, there really are parts of the world with beauty in the natural terrain. Damned sure ain't much here in SE Texas.

If you scroll around the pictures in the San Diego area. You can actually see nice clear photos of the sub base I was stationed on.

Streisand's bit of the nature:

Astro, any links to help narrow it down?

Nice article too. The guy has spent 5 times more fighting the suit than he did photographing the coast. Cheers to him!

Here ya go Nute

If you look at the group of photos under the large main photo. You can see all of the sub base. Actually in one of the photos there is a glimpse of the top portion of a sub behind one of the surface ships (You can see one of the masts and one of the antennas)

This picture is of a campground located on the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Dana and I had the opportunity to spend a night there. The campground is located in the middle-lower portion of the image. It's an open light brown field area with a trail on the left side.

Following that trail toward the ocean will lead you past a SPRAWLING tree on the right side of the path, which is easily recognized in the photograph as a giant blob of green stuff. It is an amazing spectacle.

Once at the shoreline, a trip south along the shore will lead you to the tidal pools. This was probably the most exciting thing I've done which incorporated myself investigating living creatures. Starfish, crabs, anenomes, etc. It was amazing. Unfortunately, our time spent there was at dusk, heavy fog and chilly, and only part of the morning which was also foggy.

If not for the crazy people, California would be my new home.

Neat-O. I saw the sub there; what kind of ship is that behind it? It has a wide flat deck, assumably for copters? My knowldge of the varieties and purposes of boats is pretty nil. I know of subs, carriers, and then everything else.

The whole base looks a lot smaller than I expected.

To be honest sub bases are pretty small. They do not need much in the way of space. If you look at the pictures basically pretty much all the land you see to the left that goes up the hill is Navy owned. Also there there several other bases all along that stretch of land.
