Dont work too hard...

this was mailed to me the other day
thought I would share

Worker found dead at desk for 5 days

New York Times 22-January-03

Bosses of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no one noticed that one of their employees had been sitting dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS before anyone asked if he was feeling okay. George Turklebaum, 51, who had been employed as a proofreader at a New York firm for 30 years, had a heart attack in the open-plan office he shared with 23 other workers. He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday morning when an office cleaner asked why he was still working during the weekend.

His boss Elliot Wachiaski said: "George was always the first guy in each morning and the last to leave at night, so no one found it unusual that he was in the same position all that time and didn't say anything. He was always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself."

A post mortem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. Ironically, George was proofreading manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died.

You may want to give your co-workers a nudge occasionally.

Moral of the story: Don't work too hard. Nobody notices anyway

So any real stories of odd deaths related to work?

I got one:

A couple months ago one of the old folks (well past retirement age) in one of the other offices sat down for a rest on a bench on his way to catch the pulic transit (bus, train, not sure) and just kind of, well, died. It struck me as kind of weird, just walkin home from work, sit down, die . . .

There was a fella where I work (he worked in the HVAC dept.) that died in a rather grusome way. He was doing some work on the ducts in the engineering building and didn't lock out the power the fans. The fan started up and he got sucked into it. The biggest peice they found was a shoe with a little bit of ankle attached.

Let's see, there was a guy here a couple of months ago who died on the court in the middle of a lunch-hour basketball game. He was playing with a guy in my office.

Then about a year ago, some guy who worked downstairs went to the gym after work and died on the treadmill.
