the Asylum essays

Just had a nifty thought.

Since we have such a great collection of thinkists, er, collected here at TLF, might I invite the lot of you to do essays on some topics?

It could be anything at all...politics, philosophy, music, anything.

Think...short- to medium-sized magazine article in length.

Citations, references, all that good stuff. Semi-serious scholarly work preferred.

Then I (or even the Asylum) could keep them on hand and bust them out whenever someone brings up a topic that has been done.

I would also be interested in reading some point-counterpoint stuff if anyone wants to write those.

Just an idea.

yeah, we used to have an essay forum. I know I wrote one on the american eduactional system once. Anyone remember what it was called? It has slipped my mind. It was kinda fun, unfortunately few of us posted reponses to most of the essays, I'm guessing that's why it dissappeared.

When we switched servers, it went into the archives. To put it back up would require rebuilding it in some ways, or just building a static page from which all the old content was available.

Yes, and we all know how hard it is to do a page. It takes months sometimes, especially when you already have all the content right in front of you. It's almost impossible at that point to find the time to do it.

The main issue is that it was integrated with the forum (The Suppository Forum and the security routines, along with php itself), as well as our own homegrown control panel.
