He's just saying this to prepare us for DNA manipulation

Low IQs 'shouldn't have children'
September 30, 2003

A DANISH academic has sparked an uproar by calling for state measures to encourage childbearing among intelligent people but to dissuade those with low intellectual ability, to create what he called a better Danish society.

Helmuth Nyborg, a well-known psychology professor at the University of Aarhus who specialises in intelligence research, said it was time to "abandon the politically correct" and to practice selection in order to "improve the coming generations and avoid degenerates in the population", in comments this weekend that have been widely reported on national television and the country's main newspapers.

"I'm aware that my proposal breaks a taboo that dates back more than half a century, since Hitler's Aryan race program, and it is very controversial," he said.

"But the debate has to be raised now because the trend is cause for concern in Denmark, where we have an increasing number of problem kids," he said.

I think about this every so often and it comes down to one thing: I need someone to ring up the groceries, take my order at McDonalds, mop the floors, and serve me at a restaurant.

Interesting.

Eugenics is usually dissed on moral or ethical grounds, but there are quite a few socio-political based theories hypothesizing that gene tampering--whether by physical manipulation or mate selection--is detrimental to the human species' cultural and social functionality. I suppose it just depends on which group you happen to be a part of, though.

So, from Vegas we have advocation for creation of Gammas.
Go thou and read Brave New World again and come back if you need someone to explain to you why such a thing is bad.
edit: Apologizes if I sound patronizing, Vegas.

As for the original article...cultural relativism applied to the idea of the sacred nation-state ("My culture tells me what to do...I cannot question it...and no other culture can be held up to compare it with") resulted in German doctors being required to take the Gesundheit, a state-loyalty oath, instead of the Hippocratic Oath. This all occurred years before Hitler came to power.

The practice of sterilizing and euthanizing "the unfit" began in America with the eugenics movement (hero: Henry Ford) but Germany is where it really took off. The "Master Race" was not Hitler's invention--it was invented by the German medical establishment in much the same way this guy is attempting to bring it up in Denmark. I don't know what the medical climate is like over there--if this is common or if Dr. Nyborg is an aberration, but I can tell you that the pre-Nazi physicians in Germany justified their actions in language which is almost completely mirrored, word for word, by modern-day bioethicists, most notably Peter Singer.

This is not unexpected at all. It is happening in America now--only, as before, what originated here is being taken up overseas (I guess it's a fair trade for the postmodern philosophical pheces we took from the French).

As an aside, most MD candidates in America are no longer required to take a binding oath to "do no harm." When someone practices medicine on you, do you want them to work with concern for you...or do you want your well-being to share a seat with the health of the society and the efficient functioning of The State as well? Would you want those concerns to eclipse yours?

What do you know about your physician?

I don't see the point of eliminating stupid people while there are still shitty jobs that someone has to do. Still, I guess that there will always be illegal immigrants for those.

If all the stupid people were eliminated, which US political party would benefit, voteswise? Or do stupid people often not vote anyway?

Funny, the site from which I took this has a comment section, and the first one was:

"Alex, the question is: How do you eliminate the Democratic Party?"

Normally I'd say it's a good idea, but then I remember my friend Dan. Dan isn't the smartest guy in the world, rather slow actually, but probably the nicest and most trustworthy person I know. I'm not sure if Dan is like this because he's stupid or because of some other factor(s) but it seems rather likely that if he were smarter he'd be a total asshole and so I draw my conclusion. The best solution would be to just kill everybody or at least the children, it would solve every problem we have.

Rodney, that is a perfect example of how you can be 100% accurate and yet so wrong at the same time...

The trick is to tell when I'm being serious and when I'm being a complete ass. Your ability to do so is how I come to decide your worth.

I am for selective breeding. I don't see it happening on a large scale due to the fact that stupid people outnumber the smart ones and everyone likes to fuck. It would take some pretty draconian measures to accomplish a total manipulation of the entire human race so a large scale project is pretty much out the window. However, I do encourage the establishment of voluntary organizations to advance the the human genome through DNA research, manipulation, and selective breeding. Such groups are more than likely already established but not being widely discussed. I think that the goals of such groups should be to increase intelligence, health, and longevity.

I doubt that your feeling dirty has ought to do with the book.

You also need people to make you appear smarter because you: can't add large numbers, hold a mop properly, and serve yourself food?

The rest of his works. All his books tie into each other. Every single one. The characters in tefl appear time and time again. It's one of the greatest in-depth sagas ever as far as I'm concerned.
