People in general...

suck. They are all shallow stupid bitches, who only care what they look like. They have no respect for anyone
but themselves. And god forbid they do anything for someone else, unless there is something in it for them. Like, they only volunteer
at different places cause it "looks good on their college resume". Bullshit. I volunteer at like 4 different places, cause I WANT to, not
cause colleges look at that. Plus, I hate how narrow-minded everyone is. They think that if you don't dress and act like everyone
else, that you are then considered "weird". Like, I don't shop at the Gap or streak my hair blonde. So naturally, many people think I
am a "freak" and "strange" cause I don't conform to everyone else's way or doing stuff. I swear, one of these days, I'm gonna blow
up the world. So be warned, fuckers.

I don't volunteer much, and most of what I do is because it's mandated by my college. I don't do it because it makes me look better for my school. I do it because I have to in order to keep my scholarship. Does that make me less of a good person? Perhaps.

But volunteer work is not the only method of helping others. I often go out of my way to help people out, even those I don't know. Why? Because I feel like it. Also, I have a hard time saying no to someone if asked for help, unless I have a good reason (like I've got something else that I need to do, or I'm just unable to help).

As for the conformity, I'm in the same boat. I don't wear "trendy" clothes.. I don't really care a whole lot about my appearance (probably ANOTHER reason I couldn't get a date if my life depended on it). But I don't bitch and whine about the shallowness of people. You just need to find the people who aren't shallow, and ignore all the rest. If someone calls you a freak, accept the label. Make it part of yourself. In truth, it just means that you aren't another shallow peon trying to look cool in front of a bunch of their equally shallow friends. Realize that it means you have enough intelligence to actually think for yourself rather than merely follow the herd.

Just make sure you're not just following a different herd, though. Don't get caught up in that trap.

Good points there, Rosh. I saw "Pay It Forward" last night. Pretty cool movie with an extremely simple message. I'm sure the critics will hate it and that's just fine with me. I like what I like. Amen.

Mr. Sherman, you volunteer because you like to and because it makes you feel good about yourself. Helping others makes you feel worth something! So, as you can see, you're still doing it for yourself! Everyone has their own best interests at heart, even if they delude themselves otherwise.

I haven't seen it. I rarely care what critics say. There are some occasions when I agree with them, but there are just as many, if not more, when I disagree. I make my own opinions about movies, though sometimes they change after I've had a chance to think about the movie...

I saw Meet the Parents last night. I was in the mood for a comedy. It was fun.
