Steve Bartman -- The Movie
By far the most entertaining movie news I've heard in months.
Steve Bartman being the infamous Cubs Fan.
Actions by Cubs' fan on foul pop in Game 6 inspire movie
Chicago Tribune
CHICAGO - (KRT) - Boy, that was quick.
Steven Bartman has inspired a movie.
Trade publication Daily Variety reports that Revolution Studios has accepted a pitch for a movie tentatively titled "Fan Interference." The movie is expected to star TV sitcom star Kevin James of the CBS show "King of Queens." Variety said it would tell the story of a fan who screws up an easy out, and then has to deal with the ramifications.
Bartman, reviled by many Cub fans who felt his reaching for a foul ball in Game 6 led to the Cubs ultimate demise in the NLCS, had to be escorted out of his seat for his own safety. Bartman apologized Wednesday, and on Thursday the Cubs released the following statement is an attempt to ease the vitriol aimed at him:
"We would also like to remind everyone that games are decided by what happens on the playing field_not in the stands. It is inaccurate and unfair to suggest that an individual fan is responsible for the events that transpired in Game 6. He did what every fan who comes to the ballpark tries to do_catch a foul ball in the stands."
Revolution Studios is the reel deal. The privately held independent studio is majority owned by former 20th Century Fox and Disney chairman Joe Roth and has investments from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Fox, which also broadcast the game on its television network. Its recent movies have included hits such as "XXX" and "Anger Management," as well as box-office flop "Gigli."
REVOLUTION STUDIOS will pay comedian Kevin James, star of TV series “King of Queens,” to develop a film about a baseball fan who interferes with a critical play and must deal with the repercussions, a Revolution spokeswoman said Thursday.
The idea was inspired by the predicament faced by the Chicago Cubs fan who Tuesday night held out his hand to try and catch a foul ball at a key point in game six of the professional baseball teams playoff series against the Florida Marlins.
The Revolution spokeswoman said any movie which eventually gets made would not be based on the specific fan or his own predicament. James will star in the film as well as develop it.
In Hollywood terms, James “pitched” his idea to Revolution and will now have to develop a story, produce a screenplay, then work on casting and production before even shooting a film. Generally speaking, movies take roughly two years from idea to movie theaters.
Who said Hollywood was out of ideas?
