Possible sniper in Columbus Ohio

So yesterday I meet up with one of the guys I work with off and on. Dan is a retired police officer. He had been going out to a vacant house to shoot a virtual tour for me, but was way late coming back. I was giving him shit about not knowing how to use the digital camera but he said, "man, 270 is locked up tight, they had 3/4 of the force, swat, emt, fire, guys in suits, fucking everybody out there running through the woods and searching the fields."
damn...
After speculating for awhile we both decided if it was anything big it'd be in the news tomorrow.

Task force to meet on series of unsolved shootings

Staff Report
WBNS-10TV EYEWITNESS NEWS
© 2002 WBNS-TV, Inc.
10TV Eyewitness News has learned that a task force is being assembled to deal with a series of unsolved shootings that may be related.

The agencies, including the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, the Columbus Police Department, and the FBI, meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday. No one is prepared to talk about this publicly, but we are told there will be information released later Wednesday afternoon.

Gail Knisley, 62, was killed by a bullet that sailed onto I-270 west of Route 23 near Grove City and pierced the car in which she was riding. An autopsy confirms Knisley died of a single gunshot wound in her side. The bullet that killed her has been recovered.

All of the shootings in question occurred around the South Outerbelt. One happened way back on May 10th, but the others have all occurred since October 11th. One occurred on October 19th, three from November 17-21, and two shootings yesterday: the one that killed Gail Knisley, and another shooting around 2 p.m. toward a man who was going home to Pickaway County.

We have also heard from what appears to be a ninth victim, a man whose car was hit about three weeks ago on Alkire Road just off Route 62.

Seems that the police knew about these ongoing shootings but nothing has been made public till there was an injury. Now that the news broke, people with bullet holes in their cars have started coming out of the woodwork. Most people seem to think it's just dumb, drunk, ohio hunters. But here's what they haven't said in the news. The stretch of highway where these shootings are occurring has a 3 foot concrete barrier on either side. You cannot see over it while traveling in a standard vehicle. The entry hole on this lady's car yesterday was just above mid door on the driver side of the vehicle. It literally passed the driver by inches and struck the passenger in her left side. These are not stray bullets coming down elseware than intended. There's some mutherfucker in a tree out there whispering "just don't lead them so far...".

I may be wrong about that divider.
The few pics I've seen from the air may put her past that section.
Still kinda scary though

my vote is for drunken ohio hunters. you have to account for the time of year (this is hunting season, and many people get started early), and tree stands, which would put them up above a barrier line.

As a new task force tackles a string of highway shootings, sources tell 10TV the shootings are probably related.

On Wednesday, investigators were conducting ballistics tests on the bullets they've recovered from the shootings.
Police were also stepping up patrols in the south side area along I-270 where the majority of the shootings have been reported.

Reports were still coming into the Franklin County sheriff's office about other strange incidents. Detectives said people have been calling with tips. The investigation into nine shootings along the south outerbelt is now leading detectives off the freeway and into neighborhoods as more people come forward with possible clues.

One stretch of I-270 runs directly behind the home of one woman who told police two weeks ago that someone shot her house causing a hole on the back side. Police found a bullet. Investigators were examining it more closely Wednesday night.

Another clue was handed to detectives on Wednesday, when a young woman who was shot at on South High Street north of Rathmell Road turned over a bullet that she'd kept in a plastic bag for 10 days.

Also on Wednesday, a bullet was recovered from the body of 62-year old Gail Knisely. She was shot and killed Tuesday while riding in a car on I-270 near U.S. Route 62.

But the seven state and federal agencies working on this investigation were not ready Wednesday to say whether the shootings along the south outerbelt are connected, perhaps the work of a sniper.

"We're not referring to this as a sniper case because we don't think this is in the same vein as any of the other cases have been," Deputy Chief Steve Martin of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said in a special news conference Wednesday afternoon.

But sources tell 10TV the evidence is beginning to show a connection between the shootings. And investigators say extra cruisers will patrol the highway this busy holiday weekend to help protect nervous drivers.

I remember last year when all those people were shot around Northern VA and MD. I was bobbing and weaving everywhere. Keep moving.

It's comforting to know that its difficult to hit people in moving cars. I'd drive faster in that area though, just to throw off the lead time.

Not really topical, but still...

From.......

Belgische bomexperts maken radarkast onschadelijk

En dan zeuren ze over wat verbrande flitspalen !
Bron : http://www.fok.nl

....basic translation

The Belgish "cleaning-up-explosive-devices-squad" shot to bits two speed cameras after being warned by the Belgish police that the two boxes were hanging on the lamp posts. They thought they were bombs.

The Belg jokes started (belgenmop is Dutch for "dumb Belg joke") when the Belgish police began a hunt to try and track down the vandals.

I agree, it's annoying as fuck, and many people seem to drive that way. I can't figure it out why the fuck anyone would want to drive that way, but they do, however, in the interest of dodging a sniper I could excuse it.

They had passed unnoticed for months: a bullet through a windscreen of a car that had run out of petrol back in the northern summer. A horse trailer shot at in August. A window shot out in an elementary school. Three vehicles hit in October. Four more in November.

Residents who live near a eight-kilometre stretch of interstate highway just south of Columbus, Ohio, had heard only the vaguest news reports of the gunshots. And then, 10 days ago, another shot - this time piercing a car carrying two women, out on errands and an early Christmas shopping jaunt, killing one of them, Gail Knisley, 62.

Two more vehicles were hit that day. Police scrambled, looking for a pattern. And on Tuesday they announced they had found one: a dozen shootings in all, going back to May, were linked, they said.

The most ordinary routines of life changed in an instant. Drivers sought new routes to work, and on Wednesday at Hamilton Central Elementary School in Obetz, where a bullet police said matched the type that killed Ms Knisley had been dug out of a doorjamb, worried parents walked their children inside past officers standing guard.

Many fearful residents said they had been unaware of the earlier shootings and the confirmed connection only made them more unnerved now.

Police said they did not notice a pattern before because no one had been injured and occasional stray shots are often considered acts of vandalism. Now, they say ballistics tests show at least four shots, including the one that killed Ms Knisley and the one that hit the school, came from the same gun.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a special telephone line set up for the sniper case had received more than 750 tips. Local businesses have established a $US10,000 ($13,500) reward for information leading to an arrest.

Police have pleaded with the shooter or shooters to call them.

A taskforce of local, state and federal authorities has consulted people who worked on the Washington area sniper shootings in which 10 people were killed 13 months ago.

Officials have shunned the use of the term sniper, saying it conjures up an image of a person with military training lying in wait in camouflage fatigues when the person could have no military training and be mobile.

The stretch of highway where the shootings have occurred is mostly lined with barren trees and brown grass. Hunting season has just started, and it is not unusual to see people with hunting rifles at this time of year.
