What's your hardware?

Got into a conversation with a buddy tonight about wheter AMD or Intel is more widely used by average home users...

So I ask, what processor do have in your machine(s)? What's your hardware config?

Mines sort of in the middle, not high end, not low end:

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athlon 2500+ @ 2.31 Ghz
1 GB Dual Channel Corsair DDR400 (2 X 512)
1 Maxtor 80 Gb 7200 RPM Harddrive
1 Seagate 120 Gb 7200 RPM Harddrive
ATI RADEON 9600XT , 8X AGP 128 Mb DDR
Aureal Vortex AU8820 Soundcard
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
LG CD-RW 56X32X24
LG DVD-Rom

I'd like to get the Athlon 64 bit processor, but I figure it's pointless unless I can afford to grab up a 64 bit OS as well. Plus, in 6 months, it'll all cost half as much.

I would wager to guess that Intel is definitely more popular among home users. AMD obviously brings with it some silly sort of l33t overclocking gamer cred, but i'm not sure if its really deserved.

that said, i also go AMD. this is my setup (though i've since doubled the RAM)

Intel still have the lead at the moment(AMD gained on them when the P4 was first released, but as it matured they pretty much lost all the market share they had originally gained). Same thing is likely to happen again as early showings of Prescott haven't been all that impressive. But I suspect it'll mature, like the P4 did. In the meantime AMD have a chance to secure a decent segment of the market again.

However, AMD really haven't helped themselves with the naming scheme for their most recent CPU's. They should have taken a lead from Intel and just created clear naming differences between each set of products(Celeron/Pentium4/Xeon).

Hardware wise I have: 2.4Ghz P4(running at 3.2Ghz), 3Ghz P4(running at 3.4Ghz), AMD 1700+ and a 2100+, and a 1.6Ghz Banias(Centrino) laptop.

Not worth a new thread, so this one will do..........I am now officially a networking god.

I configured a router to get two computers to run off a cable modem.

Here's me thinking it would be something like tuning a video recorder, having to push silly little buttons, when in fact you just have to browse to the IP of the router and fill in some details.

Then turn everything fucking on and off 20 times when it doesn't work.

Then after getting the whole mish mash going on one's desk, putting it behind the couch, where it decides not to work anymore.

After eliminating every possible cause it turns out that the UTP cable that came with the thing wasn't the good one to go between moden and router, changed it to a cross cable and whammo.

I'm going to post this, then retire to the other room to read it.

Next step, wireless.

Er, an XP 2000 and a iBook 600mhz G3

Funnily enough, yes.

I wish I could complain, but it was user error in ordering.

Although I can still complain about not being able to buy one.
