What's your favorite art/artist/etc

I'm just curious what everyone's favorite piece of art is and why. Not just traditional illustration/sculpture etc, but designs, fashion cars.

This is one of my favs. Not so much cause it's patriotic... buut because of the emotion it captures.

dialup beware

My all-time favorite artist is Goya. Hard to beat, in my book.

In terms of classical art, I tend to go for the big expansive paintings in which lots of people die/get raped/scream.

This is probably my all-time favorite painting though.

I went to an exhibition this summer of this fabulous artist whose name I sadly can't remember. Goddammit that was a great exhibit though, nearly put me in tears. I'll see if I can't jog my memory and come back with something from him.

Bah, I can't find any of the cool stuff from that exhibit (or even the artist) online at all. Just two of his crappier seascapes, a photo of him, and a bear sculpture he did for a credit union. Anyway, the guy's name was Dennis Pinette. http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/3aa/3aa668.htm is from the exhibit I saw. He did a lot of "fields" or "choppy sea" type of stuff, but he also had a dozen or so of these ten feet tall very colorful portraits of industrial landscapes that were just breathtaking. Too bad I can't find any online. Oh well. Dennis Pinette. If you ever get a chance, go see an exhibit of his.

For me, it is the charcoal paintings of the Norwegian artist Theodor Kittelsen(1857-1914)

My favorite painting is this one called "the pauper"

Another is "Mouse town"

and another (non-charcoal) is "Peer Gynt"

Cheers

Hard to narrow it down to just one. Currently, I've been enamored with Basquiat.

I spent a lot of time in Minneapolis between the Walker Art Center and the MIA. I learned quite a bit about some artists I'd been unfamiliar with beforehand, and I'm always open to checking out something new or different in that regard. I enjoy Jasper Johns, Rauschenberg and Claes Oldenberg, who all have quite a bit of work exhibited there. I was fascinated by Lucien Freud's paintings as well, though there are few of them in Minneapolis that I found.

I suppose my favorite artist of the last five years remains Frida Kahlo, though there are some other Mexican artists of the same period, like Rivera, who I also found pretty intriguing.

Gofuckyourself read my mind...Lobster Telephone is the end all be all of art. The only reason people still make art is because they dont understand that the great experiment is over, finished in one fell swoop.

Anyways...this is the second best work Dali ever did...

Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of a New Man

Im also a big fan of some of Paul Laffoleys work...hes a bit touched, but brilliant with inks...

Paint, the symbolism behind your favorite piece is magnificent...sadly, most modern humans just dont get it...

And sorry, but that Michael Parkes shit sucks balls...its called perspective...someone buy him some.

Pretty much. As with most prints, it's a bit flat, though.
