A little whine with your crow, Mr. O'Reilly?

Pundit O'Reilly Now Skeptical About Bush

WASHINGTON (Feb. 10) - Conservative television news anchor Bill O'Reilly said on Tuesday he was now skeptical about the Bush administration and apologized to viewers for supporting prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

The anchor of his own show on Fox News said he was sorry he gave the U.S. government the benefit of the doubt that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's weapons program poised an imminent threat, the main reason cited for going to war.

"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this," O'Reilly said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."

"What do you want me to do, go over and kiss the camera?" asked O'Reilly, who had promised rival ABC last year he would publicly apologize if weapons were not found.

O'Reilly said he was "much more skeptical about the Bush administration now" since former weapons inspector David Kay said he did not think Saddam had any weapons of mass destruction.

While critical of President Bush, O'Reilly said he did not think the president intentionally lied. Rather, O'Reilly blamed CIA Director George Tenet, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton.

"I don't know why Tenet still has his job."

He added: "I think every American should be very concerned for themselves that our intelligence is not as good as it should be."

O'Reilly anticipated the presidential election would be a close race, adding he thought Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts would be a formidable opponent against Bush.

"It will be a very close race. The nation is divided," he said.

I was wondering whether he had actually apologised (like he had promised to), and what it sounded like. The article says that he apologised, but doesn't actually quote any apology. I wondered if anyone here had seen the interview.

He used to be host of the most idiotic, breathless sleazebag TV gossip show, "A Current Affair." There's no telling how many lives he and his ilk ruined on that show, which was so bad it was finally yanked off the air in mid-episode, and O'Reilly doesn't even mention it in his biography.

The guy was one of the most reviled sleazebags of all time (think Geraldo without the intelligence and class), then suddenly he was the voice of American conservatism, accepted as a brilliant purveyor of political thought, apparently. Shows you how high that bar is set.

The Neocons are withdrawing their support of Bush.
He's going to be left holding the bag for the whole deal. Meanwhile, I predict they are going to end up supporting Hillary in '08. You know she'd take their money...she doesn't give a fuck.

Neocons and liberals are a lot closer than you might think.

Al Franken called him out on that at a press conference I saw on C-SPAN a few months ago. Bill was furious about it.

I lived in this little dump with a beat-up TV I had to actually whack the piss out of about every 10 minutes (this was before I learned about "degaussing") and I worked graveyard shift. The TV had Radio Shack rabbit-ears I'd retrieved from somebody's garbage, enhanced by two leftover Hungry Man TV dinner trays artfully scotch-taped to the rabbit-ears. On a good day I could get two channels, one just barely watchable through the static and crap. The other channel came in fairly well. That's the channel that had "A Current Affair." I still wouldn't watch it, even though the piece of shit channel had Geraldo Rivera at the same time.

I watched Geraldo. There. Now you know.

I call it the "Tumble Dry" factor man.
If somebody tried talking to me like I seen O'Reilly do with his guests via transcripts, I'd grab his mike so I could finish saying my piece and if he touched me I'd kick the fuck out of him.
He's a rude bastard in the studio. In the street he's meat.

Yeah, O'Reilly felt forunate after that exchange, since Franken used a different method to suppress someone's free speech the next time he encountered something he didn't want to hear.
