This topic deserves its own thread so as not to distract from the equally importan one of Dieties and how to become one. I think that the 6 sense is real, and not seeing dead people. ESP, extrasensory perception.

Who believes in the 6th sense and who does not?
If you do, do you meditate?
If you don't do you masturbate?

I meditate occassionally, and I masturbate more than occassionally, but the idea of a Sixth Sense is more than likely to be complete bollocks. When I see some reproducable, quantifiable scientific evidence to suggest that a sixth sense exists, then I may take a closer look.

Miller: A lot of people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch of unconnected incidences and things. They don't realize that there's this like lattice of coincidence that lays on top of everything. I'll Give you an example, show you what I mean. Suppose you thinking about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly somebody will say like plate or shrimp or plate of shrimp out of the blue no explanation. No point in looking for one either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.

It was my intention to start a thread with this occurance but Leroy set a fine backdrop.
This is a no bullshit story that happened on the 28th of this month, 3 days ago.
While packing the 50,000 tons of shit I have, we came across a box I had forgotten we were still in possession of.
The box contained the ashes of a man named Sott Knight. I never found out why they were here and they were tucked in the back of a closet and quickly forgotten during the move in. The box was discovered last Monday while emptying the closet.
On Saturday (the 28th), while working on packing the studio, Big Al stopped packing and gave me this really strange look. She announced she had to do something and walked into the house. I came in a few minutes later to find her going through the phone book. She told me that she was trying to find Scott's family. When asked why, she told me he needed to go home. I mentioned that we had plenty to do and maybe that could wait but she was adamant, he was going home today if she could find any reletives around here.
After making 2 or 3 phone calls she hit paydirt. Following a brief conversation, she headed out the door, his mother lived a short distance from our new home and she took Scott to her.
When she returned, she sat quietly for a few minutes and I asked her how it went.
"It was very strange. I am glad I took him home. She was sad and happy at the same time." She was quiet for a minute, then continued, "She had been spending the day thinking about Scott, he died two years ago today."
I was dumbfounded, there was no way Big Al could have known this. She went out and went back to packing, nothing more to say.
This is not the only time I have seen this sort of thing and still don't know quite what to think.

I completely believe in the sixth sense. But I also believe it is only allowed to be used in people who can handle it. I think that ghosts and spirits can also be seen only by people who can handle it. Some people would just freak way too much!!

BOO!!!
Happy Halloween everyone!!!

Well, the rational side would say that in all of the millions of events taking place in millions of places all over the world, some will coincide. Coincidences are odd things. Our minds seem stubbornly programmed to seek out patterns; to seek out similarities in things and draw out conclusions from them. I don't know how much faith I put in it myself.

Unrepentant scientist that I am, however, I'm not completely anti-spookiness (although it's fair to say that I'm anti-sp00ky). I can do weird things like know someone will call before they do. Or start humming a song before it comes on the radio. And so on. All that stuff which makes you wonder whether there is more to all this than meets the eye.

If you've never come across it, you'd get a kick out of reading Jung's thoughts on this. He came up with the idea of Synchronicity, or the 'theory of meaningful coincidences'. All part of his collective unconscious stuff. At some fundamental level we're all linked, our minds and souls, through the ether. Nothing happens without a reason, because it's all part of the same thing.

And so on.

Stuff like this makes me smile though. Makes me question. In my own line of work, I deal in absolutes and certainties. It's nice to be confronted with something which makes you think "damn ..."

Here is two other incidences involving Big Al where one could say "damn" and I don't know about coincidences. (I realize while I'm typing this that it is Halloween and what better time for a story like this but the only coincidence is the date of this post)
About 18 months ago, we were at a picnic. Alessandra was in a very good mood that day and had been for some time.
We were stand with some friends when all of a sudden, she bursts out crying and runs to the van. I figure it's just some girl thing and followed her.
When she finally calmed down, she asked if I would take her home. When asked what was wrong, she just shook her head and said, "He never said anything about being sick.", and started sobbing. I drove her home.
When we got there, she sat on the couch and I put on some tea for her. As the water was heating, the phone rang.
It was her mother. "I have bad news, Alessandra's uncle just passed away. They were very close. Is she there?"
I just handed her the phone as a chill ran up my spine.
This man lived in Milan, Italy. Big Al had not spoken to him in 3 months. His time of death coincided EXACTLY with the time she burst into tears.
4 months later, her cousin was killed in a car crash. We were in a grocery sore and she doubled up like she had cramps.
Same thing, the timing was on the mark.
To quote you, Pangloss... Damn

Sounds like Big al is very intune with the hungry ghost realm. This is one of the six realms of rebirth and is the explanation for all ghostly phenomenon that occurs in our reality. It is not a realm that is good to be reborn into and that is why some spirits seem uneasy and not at rest. I too have these experiences not that I like to think about them because they creep me out. The realm of ghosts is very real and they can if they want harm us in our realm going back to the fact that we are all one. If you would like to know what the conditions need be to be reborn in this realm or any of the other five just ask and I will tell you.

The picture in my profile that appears like part of my arm and torso are missing. The original picture had a bright light in that area with no explanation so I went into photoshop and cut it out so I would not have to think about it I still have the orig on my hd so if you want to see that I can post it too.

Ok, here goes.

There are six realms of rebirth in order they are.
From lowest to highest

6.Hell realm- You can be reborn here if you are particurly evil like evil in your souls core. or if you murder or rape.

5.Hungry Ghost realm- You can end up here if you fill your life with envy. Always wanting more and feeling like you never have enough.

4.Animal realm- You will come here if your life is filled with ignorance.

3.Human realm- Two ways to get here are to be a bodhisattva or to live filled with doubt.

2.Waring gods realm- You get this rebirth if you live in anger and always fighting your points.

1.God realm- You end up here if you are selfish and full of ego.

It is said that the only realm with any reason to be reborn into is human because in the other five you can not study the dharma. or the path. Also you can spend many lifetimes in each realm without realizing it.

There are many other ways to get to each realm but, these are the main ones.

It is also possible to reach the six realms for each of the original like hell has 6 different hell realms within it and so on.

To learn more about the realms read the american book of the dead. by ej gold

Is this part of some form of Buddhism? (the dimensions)
The noble fourthful path?
Let me see if I understand this right, about the dimensions in particular.

Except when one achieves 'samsara' one keeps being born after death into one of these dimensions?

Could you (puff) help me understand the relationship between the noble eightful path and the fourthful path (which I believe your sig refers to)?

If this is some sort of joke it is in bad taste.
But, seeing how you used the word samsara although incorrectly it is a buddhist term none the less so here is your answer

Yes the demisions are from the nyingmapa school of vajayana buddhism one of the four schools of tibetan buddhism. "Samsara" is the cycle of rebirth that we are currently stuck in. It is a long journey we have to make. The only time you are not reborn into samsara is when you reach nirvana.

The eightfold path is the way in which buddhists of my lineage live their lives

And the four noble truths are the four truths in which all life falls.

My goof.
Holy shit, I'm either being taught some seriously weird shit in college, or I'm just stoned. The samsara part came back to me after you said that, its the cycle, but I was thinking of it as the word for when one leaves the cycle of birth and death and reaches nirvana, slight mix up. It's a good thing I didn't claim to be an expert, or a novice for that matter. It's only been about 1 year since I learned some of this. Time for a refresher, eh?

Puff, don't think any of this is in jest or anything, I don't mean to offend you. This wasn't a Buddhism class, it was a class in various religions of Asia.
Shinto, Tao, Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
We didn't spend much time on any of them, typical of a college course, way too much material to cover for the alotted time given. Ah.

We didn't get into the philosophy of any of them much, just the histories.

I have had many sixth sense experiences, but must say that wonderaz's Big Al sounds like quite a receptor for these things. I'll not bore you with all of my stories, but instead the two with the highest meaning.

My ex was suddenly and quickly taken away to a mental hospital after the end of a rather lovely day. I was furious, upset, and in all other ways unable to function. I was tossing and turning for hours until around 1am I heard her voice as if it were right next to me telling me that she would be ok and could handle it. When she finally returned, she told me that she was more worried about how I would react than he own state, and talked aloud to me that night.

I was walking home from school in 96 and I saw a friends face hovering above the road. Later on that afternoon, we met up and he told me how on his way home that he had almost been struck by a car.

Hey do not worry about it I did not think you were making fun. Just thought you were trying to make me look stupid. Then I realized you were drunk or stoned then when you explained the college thing I got it. If your interested in any of those asian religions I suggest reading more about them they all offer more philosphy than dogmatic religion. They just get grouped in with religion because of westerners thinking we rule the world.
