Why is the Shit Hitting the Fan?
First, I would like to state that I am not a historian, but I do feel compelled to cultivate the knowledge that I do have. Please correct and educate me as needed.
Why is the Shit Hitting the Fan?
Jihad. Slow rolling and building steam. Effective at this juncture. Prudent, to use the words of Bush Sr. Civilian deaths or terrorist acts over the last 15 or more years have had more and more of an effect on Western culture and security. I don't know when it was, exactly, that the Taliban or bin Laden sniped us out of Somolia or when Gadaffy's group bombed the bunker to finally chase the U.S. and its allies out of Lybia, but I'd say that was a good starting point for the children of the 80's to consider the beginning of working Jihad. Don't forget the endless lack of displaced Palestinians and the righful land owners American powered Israel having their hundred years war, clearly the root of all that is Islam vs. Zionism and very creative terrorism.
The WTC garage bombing in '91 was the first memorable, if ever truly successful, terrorist attack on American soil and it affected the entire Western Culture, from North America to Ireland, Spain and Europe. We had seen and heard of it going down elsewhere outside of Levi Strauss' neighborhood, but were immune to it. I believe we, as a culture, weren't aware that it was even real. In our Western haze, our cultural disinformationalism, our disallusion, our home was being invaded. We welcomed terrorists into our country. Our welcome mat exploded and turned to dust.
The U.S. has been the greatest, most affluent country in the world with the greatest culture built up in only two hundred years backing it. Welcome one, welcome all. Our culture is based from seemingly hundreds or thousands of other cultures. If one feels displaced, he should come to us. Come to the U.S. to have the experience of freedom and money and things within his grasp. This is a country that is willing to fulfill his fantasies. And the tides turn.
U.S. military withdrawal proves a weak state to the hardend Islamic extremists. Failures in Lybia & Somolia; the Cold War, the Iran Contra Scandal--all these things prove weakness. Access becomes available to the well funded & well informed anti-American. Hi-Jackings successfully delivered successful messages during this time as well.
Who knows what else has been planned and scrapped by Anti-Americans, but we do know the garage bombing at the World Trade Center and the bombing of the USS Cole were quite effective 'wake up calls' for the American people, however our reaction to it, as the Conservitives love to point out, was of little consequence.
This is the most qualifying evidence over time that I have for the encouragement of the bin Laden's war with the West, however, our lack of unity at this time is of no assistance.
Events from the Lewinsky scandal to the 2000 election have continulously given evidence to an American weakness in the eyes of those that believe we are weak. Considering the depth at which we were most devistatingly attacked and our response, we have been weak.
The US has clear evidence to suggest that Afghanistan, Pakistan & Saudi Arabia contain allies which benefit terrorists. It may have made sense to attack Iraq under different circumstances, however the US had just been attacked in the worst possible way by Afghanistan's leading power. Forgive my lack of objectivity, but displacing that power is no way to answer the call. The only answer is total annihilation. I feel Bush Jr. led us to distraction with a completion of the original Gulf War. Now four or more countries have felt the wrath of this displaced leadership, including Malaysia, Australia, Turkey and most recently Uzbekastan.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however it's a long way off and this country's best bet is to get a true leader to represent it. Where is Eisenhower to serve for 5 terms when you need him?
This several-years-combination-of-events has allowed a war, like Jihad to take shape between Western cultural extremists and Muslim extremists. I believe the only way to resolve a war which could involve a billion people is with tolerance and truth. What can this reasonable culture do to resolve this conflict?
